Engine

I need a new engine for my 1999 Ford Escort Wagon. (I know - laugh if you want) Mom will soon need a transmission for a PT Cruiser. Any recommendations for a mechanic?

Must be sentimental reasons or you might as well build a new car around the tires. Try Prosser Vocational in New Albany or Southern High School here in Louisville. They have auto programs and might take a whack at it for cheap.

A friend has a great shop in town - he does very good work, and at very reasonable prices. Nice facility in old Louisville.

An engine for that thing will cost more than the car is worth. You might get lucky and find one in a junkyard some where that hasn't been totally stripped down of parts. But you're likely to get, well, a junkyard engine. Might last you anouther year or five. They did sell a lot of those things so it shouldn't be hard to find but.... Between labor and the engine you'd be better of buying something else used.

Just my $.02

A good reputable transmission repair shop is Ross brothers, just over the river in Jeffersonville. They're not super cheap, but their prices aren't high either. Respected by other mechanics. (I'm a satisfied customer)
