No, down with the Tax.......come up with a more viable, non-taxing solution for the Library.......

That is exactly what they want you to believe...that you are against the libraries if you vote NO....NO you are against the tax.....If the Mayor is so concerned why does he include the 16 million that the city gives for the libraries now to them if the tax passes....Why because he will be getting 16.5 big ones in his big cookie jar to spend and clean up the messes he has created being the mayor for life around here. Why is it that all of the cities around us are passing us by....could it be the great job that out mayor for life is doing.....might have a lot to do with that...people need to wake up and really look at his record and his promises he makes every time he runs....then after he is elected..o well forget the promises of new libraries with no increase in taxes.....Vote NO 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Mayor Jerry is and has been a status quo Mayor. Dave Armstrong was much more aggressive and visionary. Most of the downtown renaissance that Abramson takes credit for was launched by Armstrong's initiatives.

Is the library tax a bit of a dodge? yes. Folks won't go for raising taxes to pay rising health insurance premiums, etc. Folks might be willing to go for a tax for the libraries, for the kids. So it is a bit of a dodge. You put in an extra fund that for which people are willing to pay.

On the other hand, these rising health insurance premiums will have to be paid, and the money has to come from somewhere. Without the tax increase, I believe the libraries will suffer in the metro budget. As health care costs take an ever increasing share of the budget, other items will be relegated.

There are things I don't like about the plan, but I will vote yes because I believe it is important. The biggest cause isn't Mayor Jerry's competence or lack thereof, it is health care costs--it is affecting every employer in the country. There is no solution out there yet.

I would like lower taxes, but I want the improvements to the library system more.

The largest segment of our population has reached the age where they require the most medical care, and now that we have a treatment for almost every ailment the costs keep rising. Just think how many baby boomers will get a joint replacement in the next ten years. the MRI alone for that will cost $2,000, not to mention the surgery fee and the hospital stay which will easily eclipse 20K. Add to that treatment for breast, colon, and prostate cancers, and it's easy to see why health care costs are only going in one direction. Up.

:D :D :D :D :D Thank GOD that the people saw through this so called library tax....All of the money that they spent with the Mayor and all of the so called important people used in the commercials did not fool the public. This is a stunning defeat for Jerry and the boys/girls..like Ellen Call. I am so proud that the grass roots effort...one that I was involved with...still works. As far as the CJ and Leo supporting it....Shows how much they mean...but they do make good liner in a bird cage. Great now lets make the Mayor keep his promises or vote him out. Yup this was really Jerry riged....BIG TIME....

I've been on the losing side of a lot in political matters, but this one really disappoints me. I think it is a step backward for Louisville.

Yes, sanity prevailed and this tax was defeated by a 2-to-1 margin.

Now, we can begin to look at SANE plans to help the libraries in Louisville.

This was not just a defeat....This was a landslide...with all of the money that the YES side spent on this....It will be interesting how the Mayor spins this.

What does it say about a place when people get this excited about denying funding to libraries?

They are excited about stopping more taxes.

Good for you, Louisville.
