Food safety?

Somewhat, but not really. I would prefer the letters on restaraunts be done UL style (or to go more foody, Kosher style). Private org instead of government.

Edit: But as I said somewhat, that one isnt a big deal for me. Food safety regs dont make me angry, except when ludicrous stuff happens, see food trucks, glove regs, etc.

I think my answer is the same.

Edit: I like Professor Bernardo de la Paz's approach in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress:

"I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."

I can tolerate a lot. Doesnt mean its my preference though.

Actually on topic:

Any chance the new CFA doesnt have a completely screwed up parking lot design?

I seriously think the Westport one may be the most dangerous parking lot in America. And the Shelbyville Rd one isnt much better.

Folks who make the customers sick or even kill them go out of business. As Rob said, there's no reason that there couldn't be competing private certification organizations to certify the reliability of food processing.

You can see this in action with the old "organic" certification movement. It was taken over by government regulation because there was supposedly no clear standards. I think it was perceived as a threat to large agribusiness. Has the state of organic food gotten better since the USDA usurped it by power of law? Don't think so.

Now we have bio-dynamic in response, also a private initiative. Do you feel safer buying privately certified bio-dynamic food? Or buying the government certified organic food?

Is the grass feed, bio-dynamic beef that I buy from Foxhollow Farm better or worse than the USDA certified feedlot, corn finished beef I can buy from Kroger? If the answer is better, then why does the government need to be involved at all?

Certainly have to agree about the one on Westport, the loop in front of the building for the drive through is totally ridiculous! At least the drive through for the one on Shelbyville road works very well. All of the traffic flow in that area is terrible so why should it be any different for the restaurant? I'm actually surprised the space has enough legal parking spaces to meet zoning requirements.

Jim Crow was a government regulation. I would have (twas before I was born) said "no" to the government regulating behavior based on race.

Rob, have you even read about the civil rights struggle? Please. I don't mean to be rude, but statements like this are frankly embarrassing.

I have a long response typed up (just couldn't stay away today), but I'm waiting for the Jim Crow issue to be clarified between Robin and Rob.

It might be fun to post anyway. It's my critique of libertarianism. But it is based on my reading of this Jim Crow back and forth - so I'll wait for this to be clarified.

Agreed. Those two are on my list of worst parking lots in the city. Along with the Dirty Kroger and the Half Price Books on Hurstbourne.

Apparently Robin means something different by "Jim Crow". But that is exactly what I was responding too.

There is nothing to be clarified. The term Jim Crow refers to a set of racist laws. I think both Robin and I oppose those laws, I dont see what Robin's problem is.

The laws followed the custom and the culture, institutionalized prejudice that continued for about 100 years after the Civil War with the full support of most of the people.

Jim Crow wasn't a practice forced by law upon white southerners who would have preferred to be diverse and inclusive. It reflected their long-standing bigotry, a bigotry that was given biblical support and preached from the pulpits of Bible Belt churches.

It took the conscience of the greater nation, support from the federal government and the National Guard, years of protests, thousands of beatings and hundreds of deaths before Jim Crow was finally legally ousted by legislation in the form of the Civil Rights Acts, plural.

To suggest that Jim Crow - meaning institutionalized racial segregation - would not have existed in the South if not for laws is simply inane.
