Well, Sycamore still doesn't have lights.......so my back gate neighbor was kind enough to let me run a cord from his generator so I could at least watch TV last night for a while....which it was delightful to have the noise.

Thank God for the internet at work or I'd be totally detached.

Suzi, CVS out at Shelbyville and Moser had batteries Tuesday.......they had just pulled a whole bunch from the back, but they might be gone by now......might have Richard check it out.

As for power, I ran into a Lineman getting dinner last evening at Subway, and inquired........"I know you're on the list.....we've not lost sight of you" was the answer I got......

We got our hopes up really high yesterday. There were 3 LG&E trucks on our street when we got home from the gym. We thought they were there to work on our lines. Nope. A neighbor reported a limb hanging off of a dead power line. It turned out to be a twig, less than an inch in diameter. Granted, nobody should be moving anything off of a power line, dead or not, unless they work for LG&E, and know what they're doing. Needless to say, everyone on our street got our hopes up, only to have them dashed when all 3 trucks left. We were frustrated to say the least. :D

We're surrounded by electricity, just none of it belonging to us. Our electrical equipment got whacked so badly that we need a special visit from the electric company once they get done with getting the masses put right. And then they can get to us, which might be Monday,... or not.... And we get to pay for the pleasure as well. I'm not looking forward to that bill.

Anyway, luckily we have a generator, and so the biggest inconvenience is no hot water heater which can't be powered through the generator we have. But we have the grill out on the back deck, with its little pot burner where I make my espresso every morning.

A tip: two pasta potsful of water will get one through bathing very nicely ("nicely," of course, being relative). But truly, that's what we're doing. I boil two pasta pots of water of an afternoon (Gary does one in the morning for himself), and one will get you through bathing. Fill a few jugs about a quarter of the way with the very hot water and the rest with water from the tap, and you've got a sufficient bath going for you. Leave some in the hot pot and it stays warm til bedtime for face washing, etc.

I'm hearing some interesting stories of people who rented houses for the tourney, then get here and there's no power! Think they might negotiate some lower rental rates as the week progresses?!

Probably not, lol. Not the homeowners' faults that the power is out!

Whew. We just got power back in the Speed at Bardstown neighborhood. Hooray, the magic boxes (computer and tv) are back on!

Yeah. I think when we get power back I'm going to celebrate by sitting on the couch in my jammies, with a big bottle of bubbly, and I'm going to watch tv until my brain melts. A lot of the shows I watch have started back this week, and I'm going through withdrawals. Plus, not having to abandon my 3 Goldens to eat, and do laundry would be fabulous. I could swear they're giving me the evil eye when I get home....

Well, I'm still without, but Mom got power last evening, so I'm camping over there. But alas, I don't have internet there (we're talking about someone who had a rotary phone in the kitchen until 2 years ago when she remodled the kitchen). I'm just going to have to wing it until I get my power back......

Anyway, there is a "light" at the end of the DARK  tunnel and hopefully, it's not an oncoming train.

Finally got power at 10:30 PM Friday nite.
It broke my heart throwing such a lot of good food away throughout the week- but it could have been so much worse.
My feeling is that I am safe, as is my family, we are feed and clothed and healthy. Perhaps we could be a little cleaner this week, and I know I'm weary of living circa 1890- but I have a roof over my head.
If I had to wait a few more hours so that Louisville could host an international event that is bringing in millions of dollars to our economy- that is OK too. I feel like I recieve so much from this community that I can make an occasinal sacrifice.
It sounds like everyone is safe-HURRAY! Now we have stories to tell for years to come.

Bill and all...

It's good to hear that you (and others) are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Becky and I had our share of adventures over the past few days. My mom's place (in Ohio) got whacked pretty hard, so Becky and I left our home on Monday morning to go up there and get things in order. Silly me I left the metro with only 1/2 a tank of gas (there were stations open in La Grange). We were 60 miles north of Cincy and on fumes when we found the next station with gas and/or power. Once we got to Ohio we spent three days cleaning up my mom's place, including removing two large trees and countless branches...I had a large tree roll over on me and barely avoided amputation by chainsaw. Luckily I ended up just cut and bruised from head to toe. We will be leaving in a few hours to come home where we understand the power IS back on. Hopefully we'll hear from the insurance adjuster about roof repairs before the next round of rain. <sigh> It's been an adventure hasn't it ?...Glad to hear everyone made it through safely.

We are in Nashville, TN for a reunion, but our son says the power came back on at 8:00 AM. Now we got to get the siding back on and see what else needs to be done. In Nashville, there is a gas shortage. We just sat in a line for 45 minutes ala 1978. Apparently the gas gods have decided the Nashville Metro area does not get fuel. Nothing to do with power outages, they say 90%+ of the gas comes from the Gulf and there is none. ???? :? :? :? ????!!!

Hope everyone there is getting back in the grid.

We got power back at 6:10 pm Saturday night. 6 days of no power. ugh. Throwing out all that food really hurt. We got it into the trash immediately before the Friday morning trash pickup.

We're going to be practicing "Old Time Religion" at church tomorrow. It's way out in the middle of no where, between Memphis and Charlestown, Indiana. The storm last Sunday pulled the whole electrical service box off the building. A week later, we still don't have electricity. My husband are taking a 5,000 watt generator with us to church tomorrow so we can get some fans going, a few portable lights, etc.

The sanctuary was built in 1858. It was the late 1950s before the building got electricity. When I was very little, they were still using carbide lamps. We didn't get indoor plumbing until 1979. I think we can make it through a week or two with a new-fangled generating machine. :-)

Great spirit, Lois! I'm sure it will be one of the most memorable services ever!
