I questioned the statement that John was a "clown" because John is a friend of mine. Not because of any political motivation or affiliation. I pointed out his hard work in the political arena because that's the arena he works in. If he'd been a doctor or a lawyer I'm sure there would be superlatives in those fields for me to point to. I think what transpired afterward with both Bedford and Robert are excellent examples of bi-partisan manure (to use Bedford's word). Why else assail an individual that I doubt either have ever met? I would hope that we would all have friends that when our own good name is trashed they stand up for us in our behalf. John has earned his friends.
And Bedford, I'm sorry to see to have become one of the bullies that have plagued you for years.

Unfortunately, this young man will not be able to post his apology to Carla in this forum. I've deactivated his account, something that I probably should have done earlier.

They happen to be...The Austin Chronicle, Isthmus (Madison), and Gambit (New Orleans). Those are fair contrasts, surely. In the past year of living here, I've felt that a certain something was lacking with the LEO, almost like it needed to be kicked up a notch. So much for vague points, huh. Cary Stemle may be a great guy, but...

I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. Here's what I was responding to:

LEO is the best alternative weekly you've seen? Having lived in a few cities myself, and having read LEO for just over a year now, I'd view it as the weakest.

So, how about that LEO being sold. I don't really remember the changeover when they were sold last time, so how long will it be before we start seeing any major changes beyond people being let go?

Our first newspaper under the new regime came out today. It's a bit thin because of the holiday weekend and one day of sales were lost to everyone feeling a bit stunned. Stephen George ran his first article as our new Editor. I thought he was very eloquent. Content wise I didn't think it was different but I guess the public will be the judge of that. What do you think?

Obviously I miss Cary, as an editor and as a friend. But props to the crew for hanging in there under stress and getting out a good issue today. It still looked like the good old LEO to me!

Having read Stephen George's editorial in today's LEO, my apologies for mischaracterizing Cary Stemle. It sounds like those little unnameable things that rubbed me the wrong way were the "wise decisions" of Times Publishing. I'm glad he made that point.

No clue. It was perhaps the oddest thing about the transfer of ownership.

I agree. You would think that they would want to keep the paper's strongest asset and let go of its weakest. However, they did just the opposite by keeping the Publisher, Pam Brooks, and letting Cary go.

Agree with that. I lived in STL for 3 years, after living here, and their alternative paper SUCKS. They do, however, have one of the best restaurant websites I've seen, based on a local restaurant/food based publication (I think) - I highly recommend if you head to STL. http://www.saucemagazine.com. GREAT resource for the area.

Yes, that was my experience living in St. Louis as well. But, I did like Sauce Magazine quite a bit.
