This really grinds my gears, too. I have a reserved parking space right next to my building at work. There are about 5 reserved spaces, with signs on my building that say, RESERVED PARKING 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, if I drive for lunch, when I come back, there is usually someone parked in my spot. There is a Subway restaurant in my building, and lots of times I figure someone has pulled into my spot while they "just run in real quick" to pick up something. Of course, this doesn't do me any good. People, if there's a sign that says RESERVED, that means "don't park there."

DO NOT PARK YOUR VEHICLE ON THIS LOT AGAIN OR YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO CITY OF LOUISVILLE TREPASS (sic) ORDINANCES

So, we'll see how that works. But I almost hope some repeat offender parks there, just so I can see 6 guys pick up a car!

I had one recurrence (different car) - I used the letter the landlord gave me, and that was a few days ago. So far so good since then.

Too bad, I really wanted to see Ed and his buddies move that Beemer.

Marsha, I had a similar problem where some folks insistend on parking in my assigned and desiginated carport. I blocked them in twice, and the second time they knocked on my door at 3:00 wanting me to move my car, I gave them an earful about parking in assigned spots.....slammed the door and went back to bed. They could wait on me to move my car from my own parking area when I was damned good and ready.

Needless to say, I've not had that problem again.

Marsha:
I am the Assistant Manager of The Crescent Centre Apartments on Third Street and our residents pay EXTRA for assigned parking. so, when someone parks in someone else's spot, things can get heated. We have these absolutely devine obnoxious neon orange warning STICKERS, that are really hard to get off. Let me know if you want some, they are great! I would start out with the sticker and the towing notice. If it happens again after say three warnings, TOW! Suburban is a good company and they take care not to damage the towed vehicle. A couple of hundred $$$$ to get their Beamer or whatever out of "jail" will make them think twice. But, be sure to warn first and keep a record of the warnings! Good Luck! Carolyne

Carolyne - has anyone ever made any noise about the sticker "damaging" their car? I just wonder about liability issues (in my case, not yours, since you're the manager I'm sure you're well within your rights).

My opinion would be that if you get a sticker, you parked where you shouldn't have, and you deserve to have to work hard at getting the thing off your window.

Marsha, you could put the sticker on the windshield or window, and it wouldn't damage it. They'd just have to work hard to get if off. Just don't put it where they can't see to move the car or drive!

Marsha:
Just put it on the window, it's not THAT hard to get off, just a real pain the behind! Plus it's neon orange, so rather embarrassing as well. The point is that 1. you are letting them know what they've done wrong, 2. you let them know you have their vehicle information and 3. you let them know you won't tolerate it again because next time, it WILL be towed. Then, FOLLOW THROUGH! If you don't stick to your guns, they'll continue to walk over you. good luck! Carolyne

Geez, shouldn't the landlord deal with this rather than poor Marsha having to take matters into her own hands?

I agree that it should be the landlord, however, from Marsha's earlier posts, it seems as though they weren't willing to much more that give her a stack of notices to stick on the windshield of the offending car. Marsha, do you live in a complex with an onsite leasing office, courtesy officer, and 24 hour emergency maintenance and/or other service? Or do you live in an apartment building where the landlord is not on site? this can make a big difference in how this situation needs to be handled to be effective. Our residents pay extra for an assigned parking space. If someone is in their spot, we handle it for them. But, that's us. Still, best of luck Marsha.
