While out working I ran into a gentleman that had moved here from NY having worked for one of the major publishing houses in the city. His job, and a handful of others, was to read alt weekly papers from all over the country checking to see which ones wrote reviews of books from that publishing house. He told me LEO was one of the few that the checkers actually would read all of because of its consistently good writing and content. Pretty high praise I thought from someone in the business of reading. Perhaps LEO isn't your cup 'o tea but to call it the weakest alt is more than a bit extreme.

Yeah , well, that's Velocity and not to be lumped in with LEO.

wow, so LEO is the weakest alternative weekly in the country? guess we don't see eye to eye on this one Michael. I don't think it compares with what one might find in NYC, San Francisco or Chicago, but it blows the doors off what I had to read in Memphis, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. If you reread, my position certainly wasn't that LEO is the weakest alt-weekly in the country, but that it is in relation to those with which I'm familiar. They happen to be...The Austin Chronicle, Isthmus (Madison), and Gambit (New Orleans). Those are fair contrasts, surely. In the past year of living here, I've felt that a certain something was lacking with the LEO, almost like it needed to be kicked up a notch. So much for vague points, huh. Cary Stemle may be a great guy, but...

By the way, the word is "wack." "Whack" would be used in another context...hopefully.

Well the Indy and Columbus (OH) weeklies are better, but LEO sometimes has great unintentional humor, but that was mostly when some clown named John Yarmuth had a piece in there. The main reason to pick up LEO is for the News of the Weird.

John Yarmuth is a clown? Hmmmm...
Well let's see...
Within his first year in Congress he brought back more than $55 MILLION in funding back to Kentucky, $600,00 in funding for flood prevention in Shively, +$490,000 funding for the LMPD for new technology, +$450,000 funding for emergency food and shelter programs, The Committee for Educational Funding(the nations largest non-profit AND NON PARTISAN group) voted him the Outstanding New Member of Congress. There's a ton more accomplishments for this new congressman so I guess I'm wondering what he's done to be labled a "clown" by you? Did he put forth a different opinion from yours? And what have you done for or given back to YOUR comunity lately?

Way to go Carla!
As you said, John Yarmuth would only be considered a clown by someone who differs with his views. Congressman Yarmuth has brought back dignity and honesty to those of us represented by him. It has been a long time coming but I am now proud of at least half of our representation in Washington!

I usually refrain from political "conversation" because it typically, rapidly devolves into the same "my god is better than your god, my politician is better than yours" crap. Whatever your ideology, Bedford, I believe that you owe Carla an apology for the crass reply. Anyone who yells at children and insults women represents the republican party in fine fashion.

I lean so far to the right that sometimes I feel like I'll fall over when trying to walk in a straight line. However, I would never call our sitting congressperson a clown. He has, indeed, brought a ton of money to Louisville - as did his predecessor, Anne Northup. However, we do seem to be in a long stretch of time when congress seems to be too focused on the micro issues of their own community and less interested in pursuing those issues of national interest. I'm not sure what the solution is, but .... we need one.

Agree wholeheartedly, TP. And let me offer an apology for using to broad a brush in my anger. Unless we can calmly discuss the issues without the partisan horse**** then we validate congress' inaction.
