I vote for letting the air out of the creep's tires.

Heh. That's probably a good idea seeing as you host a site geared towards foodies and wine lovers...not exactly hobbies geared toward the masses.

Surely you understand that some folks feel as passionately about cars as you do about he above. Take it from a "Beemer" driver...it is worth every dollar.

Marsha,

You are Not a shrew at all. That parking space is assigned to you and you pay for it with your rent. I think you've been very nice so far....( personally I might be tempted with the ice pick, but only in thought- I'd be too chicken to actually do it.)

Try the cinderblocks and if that doesn't work, I think you'll have force your landlord to get involved.

Or...do you know a couple of big guys who owe you a favor? I once was a witness to a car getting picked up and moved by 6 burly guys in a similiar circumstance.

Busted! Shouldn't have said it ... it was just too easy, and I still remember all the BMWs and Mercedes blowing me off the autobahn when I was driving a little Opel across Germany and Austria. ;)

Ohhhhh this guy wouldn't kill anyone...He's kinda like a doctor of sorts. For example my future son-in-law was having trouble seeing things...So Turk goes over and has a little chat with him and now he see's things jusssst fine.

Marsha, you are not a shrew for getting royally pissed off (can I say that here?) at this guy. But you're such a girl for thinking you are :D .

Although I really like the idea of letting the air out of the guy's tires, I worry that might invite something reciprocal, and that has the potential for scary repercussions. The guy knows where you park, after all. If it's true you can get the thing towed, I'd try that. But the cinder blocks seem to be gaining ground here. Painting them is a good idea -- bright orange, the word "jack*ss, that would do nicely.

Nahhhhh...not rough justice. More like "Tough Love". Another time my oldest daughter, who lives in Manhattan, had this guy she knew from back in college "stalking" her. So I call this friend of mine, buy him a plane ticket and problem solved. Heyyyyy...wait a minute...are there any cops on this board ? Anyway, being a Midwesterner I didn't understand it before then but did you know EVERY dumpster in NY is controlled by the union...and that these guys expect a kickback even if someone is just simply taking a little two hour "nap" in their property.

Hey Marsha...how about if you just lean on this guys/gals Beemer enough to set off the alarm...and when he/she comes out to investigate you just "politely" remind them that they need to move their @%^&*@# car before you kick their sorry #$@%&*.

I'm sorry...was that my "outside" voice ?

This is an easy one. Print the lyrics to AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" and tape it to the windshield with duct tape. If that doesn't work we have 6 burly guys on this board who will happily move it for you. The nicest is placing the car between two trees........the not nice is just turning it on its side. The learning curve is steep in Marsha's hood.

Just so ya'll don't get the wrong idea...I was only kidding around. As far as you know I wouldn't really do stuff like that.

As a serious question/suggestion, if having an assigned parking place was in one's lease...and if the apartment manager wasn't enforcing this clause wouldn't that place them in violation of the lease agreement ?...And if they were in violation couldn't you place your rent in escrow until the condition is addressed ?

Just thinking out loud.

Update: the landlord brought me a sheaf of copies of a letter to put on the windshield of cars that park there, from the building management, which ends:

DO NOT PARK YOUR VEHICLE ON THIS LOT AGAIN OR YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO CITY OF LOUISVILLE TREPASS (sic) ORDINANCES

So, we'll see how that works. But I almost hope some repeat offender parks there, just so I can see 6 guys pick up a car!

Hey Marsha,

We used to have this guy at work who would ALWAYS try and slip out the door early. You know the guy...last one in, first one out and you are left there putting out any last minute "fires". Well one day on our break a couple of us jacked up ALL four corners of his car, took off all four tires, put them UNDER the the brake drums and then lowered the car on top of them. Probably one of my greatest "pay backs" of all time.

I want to be there for the car-lifting!! Ed will appreciate what that reminded me of: when EMS was just taken into the Louisville Fire Department, I needed an ambulance for a weekend event/display for our Explorer Post. I was told to go to a particular firehouse and pick it up. I left my car there, not knowing it was traditional to leave your car keys in the firehouse while there in case it needed to be moved for one reason or another. I came back and found my car in a completely different section of the lot, was told they had some driver’s training and needed the area I was parked in. I asked “how did you move it?” and they all looked at each other and laughed. Lucky for them I drove a Geo then……..
