I've gone for years to Dr. Jackie Albers (Camelot Dental Center), which is just off Lime Kiln behind the Calabrace spa etc. center near Ballard High School. She's the best. I'll be there tomorrow!

I will second Dentalworks. Dr. Ryan is our priamry, but we have seen both. We have a dentalphobic with gum problems, a full upper and partial lower plate and braces in our family. The staff is very responsive, especially wth pain control. I especially appreciate that they do not feel the need to lecture, but explain and educate. I have had dentists that felt they had to harp and critisize. They have been very helpfull with my son finishing up with his braces, he is not currently on my dental insurance, they have been very patient about him making payments. They also have some evening and Saturday hours.

Wow, it's amazing how people are loyal to their dentists! I'm not loyal to people who inflict pain, so these must be great suggestions! (you can tell I'm really looking forward to this) The Camelot dentist is close to us, so that's appealing. 2 votes for Family Dentistry is good, and they're not far from us. As long as they give me laughing gas, I think I'll be alright. <gulp>

not to jump in late, but I've been sick...

My wife and I both go to Dr. Mathis on Bardstown rd. (the dentist behind the Krispy Kreme)

my wife had a huge fear of dentists, she had a really bad experience in the past. Now she happily goes to the dentist. the staff is great.

I still haven't made appointments for us, so this isn't late, and I appreciate the rec! Have either of you had to have any deep cleanings? I'm scared about that part, and was hoping to find a dentist who is very good at the more intrusive care. Hope you're feeling better, and thanks again!

This thread is the first I have heard of "deep cleaning". What is the difference between that and regular cleaning?

You're talking about getting under the gums and scaling, under local anesthesia, right, Kim? As I said before, Dr. Dennis Price on Bardstown near Lancashire has a good reputation for this, and his practice is good about avoiding pain and working with nervous patients.

Yeah, that's exactly what it is, Robin. Needs to be done, but not looking forward to it. I'll see if Dr. Price is in our plan, and again, thanks to everyone for the recommendations.

Haven't had to have deep cleaning, but have easily made it through root canals and a very hard molar extraction.

I had a consultation visit at DentalWorks a year or so ago, due to some serious neglect on my part.
Both doctors Veal and Bryan came highly recommended from numerous co-workers (some also dental-phobes)

My estimate was a bit jaw dropping, and my dad urged me to get a second opinion with his dentist (over 100 miles from Louisville).

I will say though that I marveled about how the staff at DentalWorks makes you feel incredibly comfortable.
I've had horrible experiences with dentists in the past, from bad pain management to being harped and criticized (as Suzi mentioned), and was truly in disbelief that not all dentists were like this after meeting the staff at DentalWorks.
I distinctly remember being told by them: "It's not about what's in the past, it's about getting your teeth healthy again, and keeping them that way."

I ended up not pursuing treatment with DentalWorks, but i will stress that finding a dentist you are comfortable with, who listens when you say you're in pain and the experience can actually be pleasant.

I had 4 dental visits in the past year to fix my neglect (some visits in the chair for over 4 hours), and i was given nothing more than local anesthetic and a muscle relaxer.
I seriously would get so comfortable and pain-free that i would catch myself falling asleep like i was sitting in a easy chair.

I don't hesitate nor have fear to goto the dentist. And it's worth the time and gas money to goto a dentist i'm comfortable with, and who is easy on the wallet.

Trust me... You'll know you've found the right dentist.
