[quote="Matthew D"][quote="Nancy Nelson"]Now, this is where I'm going to become unpopular. . If the law would acknowledge that cars and bicycles are inherently different, laws could be written that would benefit all involved.

Some would say if the law acknowledged that cars & bikes are differnt it would say bikes don't belong on the road. Matthew hopefully we wont meet when choose to run that red light. :D I can understand your point of view. But one day your luck will run out.

A few months ago my wife was entering the traffic circle at Eastern Parkway/Cherokee Road/Cherokee Park on her way home. She had already entered the circle when a biker flew through the stop sign on Eastern going so fast he almost broadsided her. He then had the nerve to yell and flip her off for being in his way.

I respect bikers on the whole, and as a runner I run on the roads when I can and avoid sidewalks to protect my knees, so I understand the problem with cars sharing the road with objects much smaller and moving slower, but at least, and for everyone's safety, bikers must obey traffic laws and signs. This problem is becoming particularly acute in the Highlands.

If the rules apply to motercycles, and they do, then they should also apply to bicycles. I'm 100% with Shawn on this one.

7:50 AM this morning a cyclist plowed through a red light at 4th and Liberty, totally ignoring everyone and everything else. Heavy traffic and everyone hurrying to get to work. One big blind spot as you look down Liberty due to a delivery truck. He was damn lucky.
