No work for me today...Southern Seminary is without electricity today as well.

Here in St. Matthews, I have power in my condo building. It doesn't even look like the power blinked. The storm was very hit and miss. I know of people who live within a mile of each other, and one has power and the other doesn't. And it was odd riding back from J-town last night. I can't imagine the traffic problems today

Grocery stores and restaurants that have power will be busy,to make a gross understatement! I heard that Tony Romas was turning away people last night because they were out of food.

I did, however, wake up to the sound of a chainsaw this morning.

I'm out toward Middletown across from the Fresh Market, it was dark as pitch in my complex, thanks to the untimely demise of a tree against some wires. When I left the complex at OH DARK THIRTY (6:30 AM), Stonefield was DARK. Shelbyville Road up toward the Watterson was spotty.......If you're heading anywhere, I'd call first. Just to be on the safe side.

Still no electricity in Crescent Hill, but I'm sitting here listening to the first train going down the tracks (honking its horn repeatedly) since the power went out, so maybe they're getting the power restored along the railroad.

Just a few big branches down in the immediate neighborhood, but it seems that the mature trees generally survived. But power is out in a broad swath from Peterson to the East, and that includes us.

Just about an hour left in this portable - guess I'll be taking it to Jackson's Organic pretty soon! :)

It's a disaster out here in Washington County, Indiana. Sunday morning woke to extreme wind noise and flapping roof shingles. Around noon I walked down to the mailbox and road and then just started clearing. Trees down across the road and tree branches everywhere. The road was covered. And then I began to fear I'd get clobbered myself, including getting beaned by walnuts which were plonking down all around me and went inside to wait for it to die down. 30 minutes later Gary and ventured outside and yikes. It had just gotten worse. I was running to dodge flying limbs, and three massive trees (3 feet in diameter), three of our old trees along the driveway, had crashed down across the driveway and taken out the electrical wires across the front pasture. And I'd just been working there 30 minutes before.

We finally tracked down a generator in Jasper, and it took hours to get there and back because of the downed trees everywhere. So, yay! A generator! which we should have gotten years ago, and cooking on the grill. Thankfully we have one of those side burners so I can make espresso. Just got phone and internet service, but apparently may not have electricity for days still.... Maybe even a week, according to some folks. After one day without electricity it just reconfirms my exceptional dependence on being wired. A friend phoned from all the way over in Scottsburg and says the winds wreaked havoc across a ten county area here in southern Indiana.

We lost part of a barn roof on Sunday. Our mum crop took a real beating as did the greenhouses. We couldnt make it to Gayles party on Sunday but the caprese salad we made and the bottle of Van Winkles we had planned on bringing made for a nice end to an otherwise hectic day.Just got internet back today. Hope things are getting better for everybody.

Middletown is still dark.....at least my part of it including Stonefield Square.....the complex next door to my condo has power, but, alas, it was a cold shower this morning. At least it's not the middle of July with 98 degree and humidity to match.

Still no power in Seneca Gardens as of 7am (at least on my street). Last night, the folks across the street from us had power for a couple of hours, but by 9:30pm-ish, that side was dark again. We lost tons of tree branches and shingles, and our neighborhood looks like a bomb went off. I don't think any trees were spared, judging from the piles of branches in front of houses, and trees that had fallen onto houses. It's a mess.

I don't want to sound like I'm gloating, but our power came back on last night around 11 p.m.

I spotted a couple of LG&E guys walking along our side street looking up and chatted them up for a couple of minutes. Apparently in a lot of neighborhoods (including ours), they intentionally shut down power to broad regions for fear of downed wires. Now they're walking the streets, and when the confirm that a block has no wires down, they can turn it back on. In this case they were working along the south side of Frankfort and side streets down to Grinstead, starting at Stilz and working west toward Peterson. (The neighborhoods west of Peterson appeared to have electricity yesterday.)

Anyway, as I reported in the "Who's open" discussion on the main forum, this means that the eateries in this stretch of Frankfort should be opening back up today, and indeed, Heine's was open this morning.

This makes me sad, as the houses two down from me each way have their lines down, so I imagine it's going to be the the weekend before I get power back. At least I still have hot, running water and a stove to cook on. I dragged all my food into the fridge at work and will be grabbing stuff to take home for dinner I guess.

You handled it very much as we did, Josh. It's GREAT to have a gas stove and water heater! (I don't think we could have used the oven without the electronic starter, but the stovetop works just fine with matches. I thought the water heater would have needed electricity for the thermostat to work, but two days of hot showers later, I'm satisfied even if I don't understand it.)

A friend on the other side of Peterson, where they had electric, generously let us share her freezer, so our big stash of goodies from Preferred Meats and the farmers' markets was not lost.

With flashlights, candles, the iPhone and three portable computers in the house (and good old Christopher at Jackson's Organic generously allowing us recharge points), we had it about as good as it could be, although I'm still mighty glad to have electric back.

We are still out. It appears 2 blocks on either side of Preston from the I-65 ramp to the river is out. The exception is U of L Hospital and the traffic signals from Breckenridge to M. Ali. This includes a firehouse (maybe 2 - did not check the one on Jefferson) and a middle school, 2 shelters, the Red Cross transport office and maybe the main Red Cross building. Going to empty the fridge today - I had stuffed newspaper in the deep freeze when the power went out and so far it is OK. Have lots of flashlights and lanturns, but if this is too much longer will runout of batteries. Tried to get some last night and everyone is fresh out. Can cook on my stove top and went into the office to recharge some things, like my computer. Kept the dial up cord, so I can do a few things online, slowly. Richard says Fresh Market got power back this morning, but they are throwing out most of the perishables and restocking. The Kroger on Goss where our son works never lost power and they are supposed to call him if they get ice. He was told their ice supplier lost power too, so no telling when they will get it.

We lost some siding and 2 of our alluminum awnings are loose. Neighbors lost gutters and roof shingles, couple of small trees and I saw a utility pole next to the alley on Ormsby today lying across a fence. Shelby Park looks like a bomb went off, several largew trees down and lots of broken branches. The shelter looked intact, and I did not see any obvious damage to the old library building.

Hope everyone is good and your damages are minimal!!

From southern Indiana again.... We watched last night as the electric company got electricity up for folks all along 160 and north of there, but we on the south side of 160 are still down. And it looks as if it's going to be a long haul. And I really hate washing my hair in cold water!

Anyway, our neighbor, who has lived in this neck of the woods all his life, says he's never seen anything like it -- the force coupled with the duration of the winds. We're surrounded by wreckage, and it really does look like a tornado hit (even though it actually didn't). His wife says the local weather folks totally missed the boat on forecasting this thing.

Pics of some of our beautiful, massive trees (and front pasture). It won't matter much, losing them, since we're so lush with trees, but still, I always hate to see it. And on the plus side, no need to harvest for firewood for a good long while, and by the time the oven's back up we'll have plenty of seasoned wood.

MIDDLETOWN UPDATE: Stonefield Square, and all complexes around mine have power, but mine is still without.......

Went out to Anchorage for a service today, and it seemed to be rather normal, other than a few blocked roads from where some of the grand old folage fell.

But all the lights on Shelbyville Road, between Evergreen and the Watterson (with the exception of the light at Oxmoor/Wendy's) were working.

I say that's progress.

Oh, and still cold showers........my Condo was built in the daze (no misspell) of Jimmy Carter's "Don't use natural gas" campaign.
