Great suggestions (except the dried blood kinda grosses me out) - I'll try some of them. Walked out this morning and the squirrels had pulled done a huge branch on the Paul Robeson - that was right next to the Owl!

I know it sounds funky, but its not that bad. Its a sand like subtance that is black in color with little odor. I be willing to bet that if you buy organic produce it was the nitrogen source used for fertilizer. Any garden center will have it. It was also the primary nitorgen source used by farmers up untill the onset of petro chemicals now used in commercial agriculture.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Died blood, bone meal and all that good stuff does sound disgusting but it's so good for the plants, and if it keep the squirrels away, all the better...I found that you have to work it well into the soil or it will attract flies...especially after a rain...my dog earns his keep as a great squirrel chaser...there are just too many squirrels here in the center of town...and have you checked out how many there are at the U of L campus? Even a few albino ones...
