Here is the WHO rankings down to the US:
[quote="WHO"]
1 France
2 Italy
3 San Marino
4 Andorra
5 Malta
6 Singapore
7 Spain
8 Oman
9 Austria
10 Japan
11 Norway
12 Portugal
13 Monaco
14 Greece
15 Iceland
16 Luxembourg
17 Netherlands
18 United Kingdom
19 Ireland
20 Switzerland
21 Belgium
22 Colombia
23 Sweden
24 Cyprus
25 Germany
26 Saudi Arabia
27 United Arab Emirates
28 Israel
29 Morocco
30 Canada
31 Finland
32 Australia
33 Chile
34 Denmark
35 Dominica
36 Costa Rica
37 United States of America"

The BCS is a joke. We need a true playoff system. Andorra over Malta? Seriousely. Did anyone else watch Andorra luck out with the late punt return for a touchdown to beat Tulane while Malta has to play in the SEC. Their rankings are a joke.

I read it. It sounds like what many people go through here with their HMOs and other insurance companies on a regular basis. But it's an isolated case. Again, everyone I know (and there's been many) that lived in Europe for any length of time and returned to the states shake their heads in wonderment at our health system. (Or lack thereof.)

I know NO ONE, here in the states, that...
A. ... is happy with their insurance coverage.
B. ....thinks they are paying a reasonable amount for their coverage.
C. ...didn't have to jump through a dozen unforeseen hoops to get the coverage on benefits they thought they were due.
It seems to be the policy of our current insurance companies to promise coverage, collect on coverage then to deny that coverage when a claim is actually made. Tie it up in litigation and reams of paperwork until the claimant runs out of money for legal expenses, gives up, or dies.
WOW! What a system!

Actually, J (should we call you "J"?), the PhpBB3 software that we use is open-source software straight out of the box. If it came with a spell checker, I'd have been happy to put it on.

There's a new version of Internet Explorer just out, I believe. Maybe it has spell-check. You might point out to your company IT people that those upgrades tend to be a lot more secure and virus-proof than older versions and that it might be in the company's best fiduciary interest to upgrade all the work computers. <wink>

Those who hold a dewy-eyed trust in the nation's medical-insurance system might be well-advised to watch Damaged Care, the fictionalized but generally accurate film about Dr. Linda Peeno, who blew the whistle on Humana and gave a scary picture of how managed care really works.

I have tried to stay out of this discussion, but it keeps drawing me in. I have worked in the healthcare system for 30 years now. I know of dozens of similar cases as above right here in Louisville. I am not a fan of government-based healthcare or rationed healthcare, but IT IS ALREADY HERE!!! Ask anyone who has fought with Humana over a procedure being deamed "experimental" - that was mine and they did not want to pay for electical muscle stimulation, a procedure used for many years, they'd rather I limp the rest of my life. Ask someone on Medicaid how long they have to wait for a clinic appointment because most private physcians will not take Passport. The current system sucks, and making all go into government is not the solution, but there needs to be a solution - tort reform, more oversight, what ever. The current decisions made are arbitrary and caprescious (sp?) and in many cases based on fear or financial considerations. How can Medicare say that ambulance transort for a elderly person with chest pain and shortness of breath is "un-necessary" - they do!

BTW - the current governement -based system, Medicare and Medicaid, are administered regionally on contract by the major INSURANCE COMPANIES or subsideraries of them! They are making it on both sides.

I use Firefox and sometimes AOL and Flock browsers. When I type a word it is underlined if it is spelled wrong and right clicking on that word gives a number of alternatives. Makes my spelling on this site look a better than it really is.

I have no idea why mine does it and others don't.

Robin.....Just to be sure..my post was a sarcastic attempt to provide an analogy of an employeer/government providing healthcare equaling hotbytes providing spellcheck. I was obviousely not really making the point that it was your responsibility to provide spellcheck. You very well may realize this, but I couldn't tell by your post.

No one should have dewy-eyed trust of health insurance companies. We should have even less dewy-eyed trust of government.

A frank answer? Sarcasm comes across VERY poorly in this medium. Even with the use of smileys, it's often extremely hard to tell if someone is being sarcastic or serious. Or being an ... well, let's not go there ... ;)
