Mayor

I know a lot of folks have soured on TMfL, but I'm not particularly excited about the major candidates, especially Jim King.

Any good thoughts on the mayoral candidates?

I'm quite concerned. I do think Mayor-for-Life Jerry was a happier man - and it showed - when he was mayor of the old urban city, with an all-Democratic Board of Aldermen that generally went along, and a better economy. I don't think hard times and challenges serve him well.

But frankly, I don't see anybody I like much on either side, and a Jim King on one side against a Heiner or Downard on the other, and no real daily newspaper left to cover the issues well, really gives me the gollywobbles.

Of course there's always Nimbus ... ;)

I will probably vote for Nimbus. Unfortunately, he probably has no chance because of lack of bucks.

King already bought his daughter a judgeship and will probably buy himself a job as Mayor.

Jim King is my councilman. I was very pleased with him until he bought the judges election. Given that the sitting judge was considered competent, to spend $200k for your unqualified daughter to become a judge was it for me.

Heiner doesn't impress me.

Any thoughts on Tandy?

I thought maybe I was going to like Tandy, but he did something (can't even remember) that didn't impress me. Spoke too positively about the arena and/or downtown bridges or something ... I'm being fuzzy here I know, and would certainly hold Tandy in the "maybe" column until I know more.

Having worked with several CM about town I will say that Heiner is the most reasonable to work with. He can take no for an answer.

I don't know if I can vote Republician again for any office. Seems they have run so far right, I am standing on the left!

As for King he would make a good dictator or used cars salesmen.
Tandy is a wildcard has potential, but if elected will owe to many favors to be effective. Don't think he can see the big picture.

NIMBUS!!! Tandy is a milquetoast, will be beholden to a lot of folks. He is one of the people who agreed to Cordish's ridiculous confidentiality agreement, very seldom has stood up to the mayor. Think Jerry-lite. King scares the crap out of me - he thinks everything and everyone has a price. If you put a gun to my head to choose right now of the "traditional" candidates, I would go with Downard, not perfect, but seems most reasonable. However, he says he is not running, so who's is left besides Nimbus? :?

Folks who pushed out TMfL may rue the day he left office. I agree with Robin that Jerry was probably made for managing prosperity more than dealing with very hard times. I also think that anyone who was mayor over the past couple of years would be considered a failure.

At the risk of opening a door perhaps better left unopened (but I'll do it anyway), isn't he very active at Southeast Christian?

I'm assuming Tyler Allen does not have a realistic chance at election. Fischer had slipped my mind. I'd love to hear thoughts on him.

Well, I suppose I must weigh in on this thread. I'll put my initial press release announcing my candidacy for you here.

One nice aspect is that I'm an Independent. I feel that is the only way we'll have true change in Louisville. Otherwise, it will be business as usual, which does indeed please some folks. As an Independent, I don't have to answer to anybody but the people who I'm representing. No party politics, no huge corporate donors, no special interests, just real people. Sure, we'll have less funding, but I don't need to fight out a nasty primary. We'll let them spend their money and trash each other. Did anybody read the CJ's article on King today? From divorce papers where he choked his wife among other things. With that plus illegal campaign contributions to his daughter he seems to be his own worst enemy.

Anyway, I'll let the other candidates take care of their own matters. Here is my preliminary platform (which by the way is much more than any of the other guys have put out thus far - and I did this months ago):

"Dr. Nimbus Couzin is announcing intent to file the necessary petitions to run for Metro Louisville Mayor as an Independent. Dr. Couzin is uniquely qualified to lead the metro into the next decade being both an educator and a small business owner. Dr. Couzin taught at IUS for several years and currently teaches Physics programs for the Medical School at U of L. He also founded a brewery in Arizona and is the owner/proprietor of Ray's Monkey House Coffeehouse/Roastery in the Highlands. Dr. Couzin has also long been involved with progressive movements; whether they be environmental or social. He is an advocate of both Peace and Social Justice, applied on local and global levels.
Dr. Couzin’s platform will stress:
Sustainability over growth - In other words, power that doesn't go out every time the wind blows instead of corporate tax giveaways.
Local business over "corporate boxes" - Incentives and tax breaks for LOCAL, INDEPENDENT, and GREEN BUSINESSES, instead of sweetheart deals for corporate parasites like Cordish.
Community Policing - A return to "cops on the beat,” instead of isolated in automobiles. Neighborhood based policing is effective, cost-efficient, and more sensitive to the needs of individual citizens and neighbourhoods.
Replacing the current Police commissioners with a Civilian Control Board, manned by representatives from EVERY precinct in the metro.
Stressing Academics over Athletics at all levels - Unlike football, one will NEVER see a kid die to make an A in history. We love sports, but the primary focus of schools must be learning.
Please contact Mr. John Hubbard, Dr. Couzin’s Campaign Manager, at 812-679-6841 for more information. Thank you.

"

Vote Dr. Nimbus Couzin for Mayor of Louisville!

Cheers,

(p.s. if you want, I can direct you to an hour long AM talk radio interview I did a few weeks ago. Also, there should be a Leo interview coming up the week after next....)
