Missing Cat

by Gayle DeM » Thu Aug 06, 2009 2:38 pm

Missing! Oriental Shorthair Cat (Chestnut Ticked which means taupe colored, with faint rings on legs,
more pronounced rings on tail, green eyes and huge ears) was wearing green collar with bell. His name is Kaishan, but I have never known him to respond to it.

Please share, especially with anyone you know in the Shelbyville/Gene Synder area.

I could swear he didn't get out. I keep doors locked. I didn't find any open. But my cleaning lady and I have searched the house high and low. It beats me.

Gayle,
Hopefully he is hiding out in some obscure place or gotten closed in a closet or something. That has happened here! We are thinking about you and keep us posted.

Gayle,

I've found our cats in various places inside the house.

-Inside the little drawer below the oven
-Inside various cabinets in the kitchen
-In all closets
-In the basement behind ______________ (insert anything here)
-In the armoire in the bedroom
-Front porch, under bushes
-My dirty clothes hamper
-On top of the refrigerator

It's amazing how they will just sit there and let you call them over & over again. Sometimes they just watch you suffer (presumablely for their own amusement). They could still be in the house. They also tend to hide when they are sick.

I hope you find your cat. Let us know.

Leann,

How long before the cat/kitten showed up?

I have no basement, I have every door, drawer, cupboard in the house open. It looks like I've had a buglary.

I have food and water out on the patio.

The silly cat has never liked his name and has never come when called.

I've plastered the neighborhood with flyers and stopped at every pet store and veterinary clinic in a three mile radius. Is there something else that I should be doing?

Gayle,
Be sure to notify Metro Animal Services and the Humane Society that you have a missing kitty. A friend's dog made the great escape and M.A.S. picked him up within two days. It was close to three weeks before they checked with them. Praying for you that you find your baby.

oh Gayle...i am so sorry. I hope you find him. I am a pet lover, with a soft spot for cats. They are like children. Have you checked the refrigerator, inside i mean? We had this one cat that loved to sit in the fridge. One day we couldn't find her, we were going crazy, Patch was her name. Called her everywhere, went all over the neighborhood. Finally, someone opened the fridge and she was on the bottom shelf, ASLEEP!!!!!! Dangerous, scary, and downright crazy.

Please keep us posted. In Texas i had cats for many, many years. We rescued them from wherever we found them. When one strays away all you can do is wait and pray.

Gayle I am so sorry about your missing baby. Even more disturbing is your burglary. Be sure and check in your bed springs. Boxed bed springs rub against bed slats on the underside and frequently the fabric will tear on the underside. Cats love those hidy holes.
I fear though if you did have a break in the cat likely bolted. Strangers in a home while their owners are gone seem to very traumatic for cats.

Im not for sure, but the way I read that was that Gayle had turned the house upside down HERSELF looking for the missing kitty.
Gayle, please keep us posted on the missing cat. As you know Anne and I are cat people and cant stand the thought of our indoor going missing.
Lets hope kitty shows up soon.

Dammit !!!...I was really hoping to wake up this morning and read that you had found your Kitty. <sigh> But I guess not (so far). Well, we'll say a couple of kitty prayers and keep our fingers and toes crossed for you.

Gayle,

Our's have vanished so many times, it just depends. Usually if I haven't seen them for an hour or so, I'll go hunting. If they're in the house, we either find them fairly quickly.....or they'll wander out when they are ready to eat. If your cat hasn't shown up yet, he is either locked inside something........or he probably did get outside. If he did get outside, they often will come on back home when they get hungry.

I'd definitely make some flyers and do some walking around the neighborhood & tell anyone you see to keep a look out for your cat. You'd be surprised how many people want to help. We lost our cat for about 36 hours in January & I walked all around the neighborhood. At one point, I gave a flyer to this nice older gentlemen who was walking his dog. ...........He actually called me several days later to ask if I had found the cat. No weirdness. He was really concerned. (We had found our cat by then)

Hope I'm not stealing your thunder, Gayle ... but, according to her Facebook, Kaishan has come home and everyone is OK.

Oh, thank you, Rebecca. You certainly didn't steal my thunder. Yes, Kaishan did saunter onto the patio this morning approximately 36 hrs. after he vanished. (He must have been on the same timetable as your kitty, Leann). He seemed quite unimpressed about my concern for him. I do so wish that he could talk so he could tell me about his adventures. Once he entered the house he went and found Ophelia (my other cat) and proceeded to bristle his tail. I guess he was wishing that she would have vanished while he was gone. Honestly, there is absolutely no love lost between those two!

 Steve, mea culpa I thought I had also posted about Kaishan's return here on LHB. Guess I must have forgotten to press the "Submit" button. I was on a tight deadline to make it to church to answer the phone this morning and have just now returned home. I did stop on my way home to make an appointment to get two cats microchipped tomorrow.

And yes, Leann, I printed up 100 flyers and dispersed throughout the area plus to all pet shops, neighborhood eateries and veterinary clinics in a three mile radius.
