Just arrived home in Shelby County and my property is snow-covered! I am just not ready for winter yet.

As transplanted Minnesotans (who moved to KY in part because of the mild winters) we thought it was kind of "cute" to come out of the grocery store the other day and see people breaking out their cell phones to take pictures of the snow flurries. BTW, is it REALLY true that if there is snow in the forecast that it is KY state law that we must go out and buy milk/bread/toilet paper ?

The weather...just another thing we're loving here.

Yes, Steve, as a native of North Dakota who did college and graduate school in New York and Massachusetts, and then spent another three years in ND and seven in Minnesota before moving to Kentucky in '76, I, too, think it is kind of "cute" to come out of the grocery store and see people breaking of cell phone to take pictues of "flurries." While I don't think it is a KY state law they we must go out and buy milk/bread/toilet paper, it might as well be. Even better was the snow storm in the mid-nineties when we got snowed in for a good week, mainly because the powers that be couldn't find the snow plows!

It is a law, but it's an unspoken and unwritten one that I, a KY native, do not follow. Oh, Gayle, they found the plows back in '94 but the majority of them broke down before they could do any good.

So when are you coming to get your chocolate covered bacon?

I can pick it up at your party, or I can come over earlier. Whatever works best for you is good for me. I try my best to be accomodating. :D

Lets hope we don't see any snow like that this year! Despite what Mayor Jerry says we don't have the salt do battle with much snow this year. Oh by the way the state law also says everyone has to eat french toast during snow showers, that why people only buy eggs, milk, & bread.

But Bill, that same law also says you MUST buy tons of TP. How does that figure with the french toast? Or does that come in later?

I've said that for years! "Why do people only rush out to buy bread, milk, and eggs when it snows? Are they all making french toast?"

Everyone rushes out to buy bread, eggs and milk because french toast is awesome.

From the grocery guys in my family - it is milk, bread, eggs, ground beef and toilet paper.

Being from the Northeast, I still have trouble understanding how people (don't) drive when it snows. You would think they would remember last year, but they all act like they have never seen it before!

As a native Louisvillian who's lived here most of my life but who's also lived in NYC, where it snows a lot, and in Southern California, where it doesn't snow at all, I think I understand this:

Snow doesn't happen often enough here for us to get used to it. Most snows are minor, but the even more rare BIG snows or ice storms scare the bejeezus out of us, and that's what we remember. Makes sense to me, although I don't buy milk, eggs and bread. I generally hit Lotsa Pasta and Doll's to make sure I don't run short on gormay goodies.

My hubby is fron Wyoming, and he finds it hysterical and terrifying, our reaction to the snow. In Wyoming, if it snows 3 feet overnight, schools are OPEN. Here, if it snows 3 inches overnight, school is CLOSED. He thinks it's funny how everyone rushes out to get food like they will never be able to leave the house again, but thinks that our driving skills in the snow need some work. I've seen some pretty scary snow driving out there, myself.
