Dentist Needed

by Kim H » Wed Oct 29, 2008 4:29 pm

Me again. This is why I joined Angie's List, we need a lot of referrals, but I haven't been impressed with this service so far. I saw the previous posts regarding dentists, but we need one that is VERY good, particularly for people who are going to need the deep cleaning. I've heard of dentists that do fine for regular cleanings, etc., but we're going to need the more invasive cleaning, and not all dentists are good at that. We currently have MetLife. We prefer someone close to home, which would be the east end, near the Summit.

I apologize in advance - I have more referral inquiries coming...

Kim, we go to Dr. Dennis Price, who's not quite in that part of the East End, but is on Bardstown Road out a few blocks north of the Watterson, about halfway between the Watterson and Taylorsville Road.

He is not inexpensive, but he is very good, and has done some very advanced work for friends, including one young woman who had been injured in an accident and needed serious work. He does deep cleaning and such, and he and his techs (I recommend Andrea, because she's the one I always go to) are gentle and very conscious of not causing pain.

Kim, John and I go to DentalWorks near the corner of Bardstown and Speed Avenue - Dr. Veal is our dentist but everyone there is really great.

John and I have had some major dental issues this year, due to some years of neglect and income issues - they have worked great with us and even made my teeth completely clean after I neglected them so long.

Also, since they're part of a national network, their prices are very reasonable. And they're taking new patients!

John and I are both hyper-sensitive and dentist-phobic, and they have done a great job of dealing with that. I am one tough customer when it comes to being happy with a dentist, and I'm in love with this place.

We use Dr. James B. Howell, DMD on Dutchmans Lane. (502)899-7766

I've recommended him to several friends. Coincidentally, I was talking with one of those friends today. And out of the blue, she thanked me for referring her to Dr. Howell.

We go to Mortenson Dental at Springhurst. It is in that little strip across the street from Tinseltown. Dr. Boatright is the dentist in this office, and I really like him.

Kim, we must be neighbors, I too live down the street from Best Cellars.

Thanks, Pam! I think it must depend on the dentist at Mortenson, because I've heard mixed reviews. That's where we initially planned to go, for proximity and hours, but some people I know at work had a less than satisfactory experience at the Mortenson off Preston for more serious dental work. We have been neglectful, and will need ... I don't want to think about it!!!

That's cool that we're neighbors!! Best Cellars looks ready to open their doors on schedule, and I can't wait! Maybe we'll see you there! Off topic - do you get many trick-or-treaters? Last year, we had zero, so we're thinking about just going out that night, and leaving the lights off! I love seeing the little kids in their costumes, but hate the waiting game for nothing.

Wow, that's so good to know. Thank you, Marsha. I'm thinking we'll check them out, because as much as I seriously hate going to the dentist, my husband is worse. Knowing that another dentophob likes this dentist, and that you were in a similar situation, is great news. I'll share something I probably shouldn't. Years ago, I had a much overdue gyn appt. When I was leaving, I asked, "Am I supposed to come back every 6 months, or every year? I'm sorry, but I get you and the dentist confused!" And I was serious.

The Mortenson Dentals are kind of like a franchise. I have had to have a crown replace and Dr. Boatright and all of assistants were great...well as great as getting a crown can be.

Off topic - do you get many trick-or-treaters?

As for Trick or Treaters, my husband said we get between 30-50 kids. My bet is there will be more, since it will be nice out and a Friday night. My son and I go to my sisters to help out. They decorate their front yard and it might put Hill Crest to shame. It is a lot of fun to see the adults get so scared. So if anyone is near Beechwood Village on Friday, go to the end of Marshall Dr.

I know my husband is looking forward to the wine shop opening.

BTW--we are in Barbour Manor.

Thanks, Leann. His name sounds familiar. I think someone from work also recommended him. Funny that you were just talking to your friends about him - maybe it's a sign! We'll weigh these recommendations and just pick one. It's TIME! Thanks again to everyone for your referrals!

I think heading to Hill Crest would be a blast. I've heard $200 worth of candy isn't enough because of the bustle over there! 2 years ago here, we had less than 10 dings of our doorbell, and last year, NONE. The neighbor across the street had a Halloween party for the kids, and I'm thinking they'll do the same this year. If we go out, maybe we'll walk down Marshall Dr. and check it out! Maybe Lou Lou's is in order!

I go to Dr. Deane Pierce, 4825 S. 3rd Street.

It's a ways away, but I really like his practice. Besides, it's just down the road from Vietnam Kitchen.... :D

We started going to him when my dad did a remodeling job for him and instead of money he gave my whole family dental work!

That's just mean! How would you work out going to the dentist and eating at VK in the same trip? ... I got it. Eat first, and take your toothbrush! Incentive to go to the dentist! I like it!

Dr. Denise Attaway
Family Care Dentistry

I am the biggest COWARD in the world (OK, maybe next to Ed) about the dentist. I am having to have a lot of work done, and they are very compassionate people who understood my phobia. They have done a marvelous job.

I know they do the insurance thing, but I pay for my own (self-employed). You can always call and get information.
