Shiraz question.....

by Heather L » Thu Jun 28, 2007 2:50 pm

I went to Blimpie to grab a sandwich today, and at the end of that little row of businesses (not the bakery/blimpie end - the OTHER end), where a small international grocery used to be - there is now a SHIRAZ sign up in the window, and during a quick peek in on my way by, I could see drink coolers, grill, etc.

Anyone know what's up? Just curious!

I'm pretty sure that is the former location of Shiraz before they moved to Frankfort. I guess they never took the sign down. there was a bakery that they shared space with.

No not that end of the row. I know where Baban Bakery is (right next to Blimpie) this is at the opposite end of that row.....the EXIT end I guess...

Heather,

Is the International/Persian grocery actually GONE or did you just see the Shiraz sign? The two were always somewhat affiliated: The International grocery made Shiraz's flat bread for Ramin - we used to sell the Shiraz flatbread in the store and the International grocery was where we always picked it up -it was made in back of the grocery on-site.

Maybe they just decided to reuse/store the Shiraz sign there when they closed the original location.....

lol...well now I am TOTALLY confused! I thought Baban Bakery made all of the bread in the original shiraz location???

I was just pulling out of the parking lot, so I couldn't really see much. The sign for the international grocery is gone and there is a shiraz sign in the window....maybe the bakery is moving from one end to the other?

The mystery continues!

Heather,

You haven't lost your mind. You are right: Baban Bakery DID originally make Shiraz's bread. At some point they stopped making it for Shiraz, and the bread for the restaurant was made by/at the international grocery, but Baban still sold their bread it from the Shiraz building (they essentially shared the space for a while).

Don't know what's happening now: just the history... Hope that helps just a little.
