Scary McDonald's experiment

by Megan Watts » Tue Apr 06, 2010 7:43 pm

Ok, so I like having a McDonald's cheeseburger every so often. But I think this just might scare me off for good.

An occasional meal at McDonalds does not cause obesity in today's nutritional life. It's the people eating it every day; filling their bodies with preservatives. I'm no scientist. But, the adage "too much of anything" is a bad thing...of course; unless we're talking about a bullet or spider bite. But, that's beside the point.

Yes, the experiment is troublesome. I agree. But, unless a person eats it all the time and does nothing to counter-balance it, leading to issues. I concur a meal from this place is not the most nutritional available. But, I also see an occasional meal is not going to cause issues when a person leads an active lifestyle.

I don't think I buy it. The ketchup looks too red and you would think the bread would at least look a little rippled.

Eat enough meals at McDonald's, and you might!

I couldn't see what the controls were on the experiment. This is for show, not science.

I was referring to the leaving several mcdonald's food items out in comparison to a more conventional made counterpart.

I posted the link on Facebook just before lunch time... got a few comments, but no thank you's... would almost be interesting to know how many people still had McD's for lunch... would assume that BK, KFC and several other large chains would also be really well preserved...

Looking carefully, the "meat" in both test and control (from what little could be seen) look similar; the big differences are in the buns, and in fact the ingredient list in the McDonald's buns DO contain several preservatives (while the bread for the home-made one may lack preservatives).

Years ago my daughter did a similar experiment for her science class. It was with bread. She used slices of a generic "2 / $1" bread. It dried out but never molded. Her teacher accused her of only having started the experiment the day before when the assignment was given weeks before. I had to write a note to the teacher explaining Sarah HAD started the experiment at the assigned time. The bread just didn't mold.
It's so unfair. You'd think with all the Micky Ds I've eaten in the past years that my FACE would have preserved better.

I love it. You know, 10 cheeseburgers are much cheaper than Botox.
