Looking for casual yet hip bar setting in Hurstbourne area

by Tina Rush » Thu Apr 01, 2010 12:15 pm

Hi - I'm brand new here. Actually signed up just to ask this question. I recently moved back to Louisville after a long absence, and I am meeting up with an old friend who lives out of town. it's a first real date for us, and so I'd love a casual, yet hip (at least, hipper than O'Charley's!) bar setting around the Hurstbourne/Shelbyville road area. Or Hurstbourne and Taylorsville roads. Somewhere where we can chat and have a couple of cocktails and possibly appies, and be comfortable. I don't want it to be so noisy we can't talk to each other over the crowd.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Selena's isn't too far from where you a looking. Nice bar. Usually fairly quiet and great "appies".

Furlongs might be another good option...Hurstborne and Shelbyville Rd.

Coco Lokos is a good bet. Great food, cool atmosphere.

Z's Steakhouse and Oyster Bar
Jack's Lounge (4 miles away)
Napa River Grill - Westport Village (can get loud)
PF Changs - Hurstbourne/Shelbyville Rd

Jack's would be my first choice, but it is a 5-10 minute drive from Hurstbourne/Shelbyville.

I second Coco Locos. Great looking bar; food selection is nice; and staff have have been friendly when at their place.

It's easy for me to get drawn into this debate and upset people who I enjoy and respect. Ya see, I have to work in this industry, you never have to. The question was 'casual yet hip.' The OP talked about being able to enjoy the company of their companion. No more perfect place than the big comfy leather sofas at Limestone. The other two have hightop seating. The cocktails are top-tier, as is the food.

I don't see what your problem is, as I have dined at all three, multiple times. Selena's will be the next to see me. This was my opinion and I stand behind it.

Can't attest to how hip it is (which to me is a relative term), but try the Bristol Bar & Grille on Hurstbourne Lane...a local "chain" that usually maintains an active and well-stocked bar embedded within a restaurant that offers a respectable and varied menu....

Tina- welcome back to Louisville and to the Forum. I hope we see a lot more of you here at out little online playhouse.
I second Limestone or Jack's (I work at Jack's)
The upside on Tue and Thur at Jack's is the live Jazz.
I moved back here myself after a long absence and am really loving the town.
Have fun wherever you end up.

+1 for me too.

They have some really good appetizers.

I think you kinda hit the nail on the head here, Gary. I would recommend Jack's for exactly the same reasons I mentioned for Limestone...

Equus & Jack's lounge which now has two bars and a few new changes to the menu is best bar/restaurant scene for various ages great drinks, food, and a top notch staff I assure you will be more then happy with the overall experience.

I also am partial to Cocos Lokos on hurstbourne great bar with lots of space fresh made mojitos, margaritas, and caipirinha. Great large rum selection which louisville needs, don't attack me please I love the bourbon.

It may be too late, but Bonefish Grill has a really nice bar area. It can get crowded on a weekend night, but their drinks are good and the appetizers top notch.
