Fast, Good Dinner Suggestions (Hustbourne/Westport/Herr)

by Matthew D » Thu Apr 01, 2010 10:24 am

I need to have my butt on my buddy's couch at 7 tonight to watch the NIT championship. He lives near Westport and Herr. I'm picking up another friend at 5:45 near Husrtbourne and Taylorsville. So, I'm looking for a good (very preferably) local place that can have us in and out, in say, 45 minutes. Casual place. And pizza is off the menu.

Not really my end of town, so I'm hoping you guys will have some suggestions. Danke.

Isn't that the area for Cocos Lokos?

Westport Village is right near your friend's house there are several good choices. BoomBazz tap room and Indigo Joe's would be great choices and they both have a lot of flat screen televisions so you could watch the pregame activities.

Don't know Mi Patria, but Mojito's, Napa River, and Hikoman will take longer than 45 minutes to get in, order, enjoy, and get out.

Mark (above) has it nailed with BoomBaz & Indigo Joe's in Westport Village!

Cocos Lokos is way too far (assuming all three of you are eating?) . . . at prime evening hours you would take most of the 45 minutes driving there & back.

Enroute to Westport Village you'll pass Jason's (actually, two of them!). If you like NY-style overstuffed deli sandwiches, that's possibly the fastest option (easiest is on Hurstbourne one block NE of Shelbyville Rd).

Yeah, it depends. If you're picking up your friend at Hurstbourne and Taylorsville, and the third friend isn't eating with you, then Cocos Lokos is a great choice. If all three are eating, it might be pushing it.

There were two of us and we certainly couldn't get in and out of Cocos Lockos in 45 minutes. It was great - but not a quick turnaround.

I suggest Hiko-a-mon. They are fast and there are flat screen TV's if you sit at the sushi bar. Call ahead and they will have a place ready for you.

Second Mi Patria.

Corner Cafe sounds perfect for what you have described. The nuclear sub and the lasagna are a couple faves of mine.

I eat at My Patria, Mojitos, Napa (happy hour), and Hikomon once or twice a month and 45 minutes is not out of the question. You aren't going to be able to linger over the menu and have a few drinks, but the food comes out fast and they shouldn't be slammed @ 6:00 on a thursday.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

To clarify, I am picking up person one at Hurstbourne and Taylorsville and planning to eat, then, on the way to person two's house at Herr and Westport.

All three of us would usually just go to the BBC, but, alas, things change when you have to account for 6-month-old twins.

Great suggestions so far!

Looking at your location, I'd say Boombozz Taphouse and get one of the Italian-style dishes that's not pizza (or wings!); or get Chinese takeout from Jade Palace just around the corner. Jade Palace is really at its best for daytime dim sum, but they make perfectly credible Chinese-restaurant fare and do a steady takeout business.

If you're willing to call ahead, then Boombaz pizza or Wick's (on Goose Creek & Westport) would be fine also! Plus, forgot to mention LosAztecas in Westport Village.

Not sure about twins: are they at the 2nd person's house, or are you taking them with you? If the latter, Mr. Gatti's in Westport Village is geared to handle tiny ones without you worrying about them; cardboard pizza, but (1) it's FAST and (2) kids don't bother anyone, with tons of high chairs, cradles, et al available.

One other off-beat suggestion: At Westport barely beyond the Ford plant (on other side of the street) is Rooties, with spectacular wings and good burgers. You can have a bite there, and then bring more wings back to #2 person's house!

It's fun watching all the suggestions pop up.

We've found about 30 more minutes to work with and are now leaving from the UofL area, so we are planning to have a good, unhealthy meal at the GCD. Also known as the Goose Creek Diner, which someone suggested.

Thanks for all the help. A few places I hadn't considered before popped up, so I'll be sure to "add them to the mental list."

I'm late tot he game here, but GCD or MI Patria would have been my suggestions. Have fun.
