Antipasto trays?

by Adam Smith » Wed Mar 24, 2010 3:52 pm

Anyone know who makes up antipasto trays/platters? From a restaurant/ deli and it doesn't matter if it's pre-made or made to order.. I'm looking for a variety of cheeses, olives and meats. I plan on serving this tomorrow night during the UK game with some wine and I'm making some simple bruschetta as well.

Adam, I think most grocery delis would do it for you - but anyone could put one together for themselves. There's an olive bar at most big groceries now. But if you are just short of time, why not call lotsa pasta? They have the best selection of stuff to put on an antipasto platter that I can think of in the whole city.

LP was the first place that came to mind but I was just checking if anyone had any experiences they could share and/or recommend. As for making it myself, I have no idea when it comes to cheese or olives what is good or unique and what would play well together or offer a flavor contrast.

This makes me want to take you shopping! I love antipasto trays - I always spend too much, though. Anyway, it's a basketball game, so it doesn't have to have super expensive ingredients. Three kinds of olives (kalamata, cippolini, nicoise), a good hard salami, some mortadella, banana peppers, some marinated mini-mozzarella balls, a good salty ham, some interesting crackers, a really hearty stone-ground mustard, some drunken goat cheese, a super-sharp cheddar....ooh, there's this one great mustard cheese called Red Dragon, I think....

I could go on...

Rats...not "cippoline", those're those little flat onions. What olives am I thinking of that start with a "c"?

Now I remember. "Picholine" olives. No wonder I got it mixed up with cippolini. Duh.

I ordered one from Dolls for my parents' 40th anniversary party last year. It was great, and shockingly reasonably priced considering the quality. We're probably going to get another one for a shower my wife is throwing next month.

I always add a jar of giardiniera to my antipasto trays. I like the "hot mix".
