Why I Refuse to Go to Rivue

by Peg O'Neill » Wed Jun 27, 2007 10:46 am

1) Don't like names that are puns/clever combinations of two words.
2) Took the best bar in Louisville and turned it into some hoity toity citified nonsense.

That's all. Sorry, ya'll.

That's not good enough reasons for me

I applaud the complete renovation, paired with the moving floors I think visitors to Louisville will find this a memorable experience. Even though I haven't been myself yet :D

Funny You Should Mention That...

by Keith D Heath » Wed Jun 27, 2007 11:42 am

My wife and I tried to go to Rivue a couple of weeks ago. This was during the week probably around 5:30 or 6:00 and not on a Friday or Saturday. I say "tried" because we never made it past the phone call to check availability and reserve a table. Short story short - my wife was on the phone, said hello to the person on the other end, asked about a table and turned very briefly to me to ask what time I thought we could get there. Rather then politely ask if my wife was still on the line, she simply interrupted her with a very loud "HELLLOOOO." (I think the "you idiot" was implied on the end.)

My wife immediately told the person "never mind" and tried to hang up the phone. When asked why we didn't want to eat, my wife simply told the person that she didn't like being talked to in that manner and that we wouldn't need a table. I believe that the person on the other end tried to backpedal, but it’s certainly hard to overcome a bad first impression especially right from the get go. We actually wanted to use this dining experience as a gauge for deciding on an upcoming anniversary dinner but don’t think we’ll be dining at Rivue.

So, I would add; 3) bad telephone manners to your list.

I won't be going because the one vegetarian entree on the menu is $21 for some stacked veggies and the ever popular portabello mushroom!

We took clients a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure we'll return.

Food was OK. Service was a real problem, wine list was not much to look at according to our client, and coffee service was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. Course we had been to Proof on Main the night before with them so the bar had been raised.

The other thing I found troublesome was that we called late for a reservation and they said we could not get a party of 5 on the rotating sections of the restaurant. They were not slammed, but said that all tables were four tops only.

We sat in the center of the restaurant and were not terribly unhappy about it until a large party came in and they stuck 2 or 3 tables together to accommodate them. Felt kind of silly trying to explain to my clients why we got shoved to the center and then the other party was seated where they wanted to be.

Could have been a longstanding reservation, but the tables were not set up that way as if it was expected and it hit us the wrong way. With the bucks they are charging and the service problems we experienced they won't get returnees by pretending that the view is not part of the draw. Have a client in town tonight and it's the Oakroom for them

I don't think it's clever. I think it's stupid.

There's such a fine line between stupid and clever.

The trite-ness throws in right over the edge to stupid with that line nowhere in sight. :P

All right, I may have missed this somewhere, please humor me - I can think up a couple words that could be combined to make up rivue, but of what is it truly suppose to be a combo or pun? (Guess it doesn't really matter , don't like the name anyway) Kinda like SAV-A-STEP I want to put big Es on all their signs.
