Downtown Saturday Brunch

by Scott Campbell » Sun Mar 21, 2010 10:39 am

I have been tasked with driving an out of town visitor to the airport a couple Saturdays from now. It was suggested I meet him early and take him to brunch somewhere downtown, since that's where he'll be staying. I know of lots of good brunch places throughout town--except for downtown, where I almost never go in the mornings. Can anybody here suggest any good places downtown that serve brunch on Saturdays? Thanks!

North End cafe isn't too far from downtown and you could jump right back on I-64 to get to the Airport. Also Winston's is quite close to the Airport and has an excellent brunch. I particularly like both of these because they're menu based instead of buffets.

Since you asked specifically about downtown, Rivue has an expansive one, with a great location in the rotating restaurant atop the Galt House.

I'm pretty sure the Seelbach Oakroom is still doing a fancy one, and there's a good chance that BLU in the Marriott does as well - better call to check, though.

while normally I would agree with your list, Robin, I don't think any of them offer a SATURDAY brunch! (other than Derby day, maybe)

Oh, he said "Saturday," Beavis. Huh-huh. Huh. Huh. Sorry, folks. That was dumb of me.

Or, your friend could ditch the hotel and stay at a local B&B (there are a bunch) where a lovely breakfast will be cooked to his order. And you can join him for breakfast.

Just sayin'.

Hey, Leah, I've always been curious about B&B policies re: guests that are not staying there. Do you charge them some nominal fee? I think it's cool that their hosts, if they have some in town, can join them for your awesome cooking!

The rules about who can be served breakfast vary according to the license you hold. If the B&B has only a B&B license, then (legally) only registered guests may eat there. I don't suppose the Health Dept would ever check.

Since I have a Food Service license I can serve anyone and can also offer meals in addition to breakfast. There are, I think, four us of who have the upgraded license.

So, long answer when I guess . . . it depends.

But, yes we have family members and friends join our guests for breakfast somewhat frequently. And there is a nominal fee. (And no tipping.)

I think Proof offers breakfast/brunch on Saturdays...

we usually take out-of-towners to Lynn's . . . only around 4 minutes from downtown, and an iconic Louisville experience

Yeah, my first thoughts were of Toast and Lynn's, but ideally I'd like it to be within walking distance of his hotel (which is the Brown, btw) partly for convenience and partly because of the wait that I know there will be at those two places on Saturday morning. I was thinking that some of the downtown hotels might have nice brunches, but maybe that was too much to hope for.

Lynn's takes reservations for any size party, any day.

A friend informed me Toast accepts call ahead. I've never done it; so can not say for certain if it is true. In any case, I'd take them to Toast over Lynn's any time of the day.
