NYC restaurants must now show their report cards

From USA Today:

NEW YORK — New York City's 24,000 restaurants — from its internationally known eateries on down to its most modest pizza counters — will have to display large letter grades near their entrances indicating how clean they are under a system approved Tuesday. The best will get an A, according to the system approved by the city Board of Health. Officials say the system is designed to give instant information to potential customers....continued at:

Replying to my own topic...

Acknowledging that there are two sides to every story, when administered correctly I think this type of system is a great benefit to the consumer and an obvious incentive to the restaurant owner. Since moving to Louisville, the first city I've lived in that uses such a grading system, I've appreciated the fact that when I walk into a restaurant I immediately have some idea as to the sanitation conditions.

I imagine there are some restaurant owners who might feel differently about this but from a consumers perspective it does add some degree of comfort knowing the place I'm dining has jumped through the required sanitation hoops.

Steve, I complete agree with your analogy....I know when I go someplace here, the first thing I look for is the letter placed in view.....sometimes I've changed my mind accordingly.....
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?
