If you've been missing my desserts, Winston's has 'em!

by Marsha L. » Thu Mar 11, 2010 9:02 pm

Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm doing dessert specials for Winston's on the weekends now. I thought my desserts might be a little too "humble" for them, but they say not - and they sure do make them look fancy. This weekend they'll have both Lemon Sunshine and Splendiferous Coconut cakes.

If you haven't tried Winston's, you should - it's the restaurant at Sullivan University that's staffed by last-quarter students under the guidance of Chef John Castro and Sous Chef and fellow forumite Aaron Adams. Open for lunch and dinner Friday and Saturday, and brunch on Sunday. Call 456-0980 for reservations...and tell 'em I sent you! Winston's Restaurant

Figured I would chime in - Marsha has been doing limited dessert specials for us for 3 weeks now. Its all part of my master plan to make it look like I have a clue when it comes to desserts, in this case absolving myself of all responsibility and convincing Marsha to make stuff for us. So I encourage you all to stop by in the evenings and ask for whatever Marsha has made for the weekend. So far we haven't been running them at lunch (saving them for the dinner crowd, vs our usual in house lunch crowd), but if you ask we can get a piece for you. Right now, its just on a limited basis, and first come first serve, we've ran out the past two weekend (minus the piece of coconut cake that went home to my fridge). Leave a comment card about how happy you are about Marsha and her desserts. The better response she and I get from you all, the easier it will be to convince the higher ups that she should be completely in charge (or as much as she wants to be) of all things sweet in my kitchen.

I think a Winston's offline would be a great idea. Let's let the new crop of student interns settle in a little bit (the staff other than John and Aaron and the servers switches every quarter), and then try to get one going in about a month. Sound good?

Hey, y'all - I made Grandma's Jam cake for the special this weekend - but I didn't glaze it with caramel icing, I made my own cream cheese/blackberry/caramel frosting. Try it! There was extra batter so I made a dozen cupcakes to share around school. All gone! 8)
