not so good

by Leah S » Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:23 am

It's been a couple of weeks since this meal, and as I've continued to think about it, there really are few excuses for it.

Backstory: After visiting the Bardstown Road Farmers Market a couple of Saturdays ago, on literally my one Saturday off all summer, we decided to go have the fabulous brunch at Mellilo's. Unfortunately they were closed for a family reunion, so this post is not about them. (Relax Michelle and Ashley.)

We walked across the hall to The Bodega for breakfast. Ordered coffee and iced ta and the waffles with a raspberry sauce, almonds and what turned out to be ice cream on top. Sounded good.

The coffee was absolutely undrinkable and we sent it back. The tea was so weak it was barely flavored water. I think it was supposed to be mango or something.

The waffles were two little squares, totally limp with a pleasant drizzle of a quite good raspberry sauce. The sliced almonds were raw right out of the bag (please toast them for more flavor and color) and the ice cream was good.

When questioned about the coffee, the server said that perhaps it was too strong for us since they use a French roast? ha!

All in all, the portions were small, average food at best, drinks were awful. Service was quick. We will not be back.

If these guys want to compete in the breakfast/lunch arena with Mellilos and Toast, and with their neighbor Mayan Cafe for lunch business, they're gonna lose.

Go there for specialty groceries but order food somewhere else.

Just my opinion based on my one experience. Take it for what's it worth.

I am sorry you had such a bad experience in our business. Thanks to your feed back that day we did have a service technician in and the calibration on our coffee grinder was off and we have had it fixed. Please do not base your opinion of one bad experience. We would love to have you give us a second chance. I am sure if you tried one of our breakfast plates, burritos, paninis or other sandwiches you would enjoy it. Please let us treat you to a second chance. Just ask for Bob or Joey and we will take care of your parties meal.

That's funny.....we were there on the same day. Didn't know the Clems/Melillos were slumming. I had the tortellini side salad and it was not "al dente" it was too undercooked to eat! My husband had the eggplant panini and I had the mozzarella/veggie panini. They were okay, but could have had more flavor...maybe pesto, sun dried tomato sauce, etc. I hate to compare, but there is another similar place in town that makes a better sandwich. They were just a bit bland. Next time we'll try the wraps.
