Boombozz Westport Village, TAPHOUSE TUESDAY! The new BoomBozz Taphouse is open in Westport Village and the New Albanian Brewing Company is helping us celebrate with $2 pints of Beak's Best! To sweeten the pot, BoomBozz also has Hoptimus on tap and a very rare 1/6 barrel (5.5 gallons) of Solidarity Baltic Porter (not $...2). Happy Hours start at 4 with 1/2 price apps, 2 for 1 calls, Afternoon Underdogs LIVE, watch UL battle there way into the Tourney!

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Stopped in tonight for some wings and both the Beak's and Baltic, all were great. Only complaint is that the wait staff seems to have no idea about what is going on with the beer. My waiter had no idea the Baltic was being offered and I heard another waitress describe Beak's as, "some beer I don't know anything about". I ran into a similar situation last week when bartender described Hoptimus(listed as Hoptimus Prime) as, "a bitter beer". If Boombooz is going to educate the masses on beer, they better start internally.

We stopped in there Friday night. Sat at the bar. I like the individual pizza offering for an appetizer or late meal. We shared that since we had eaten at Yangkee Noodle earlier. Enjoyed the NABC beer. Noticed there was coupon for that location in the CJ Sunday.

Justin, I totally respect your opinion as much more of a beer connoisseur than me, but I don't think it's fair to call a bartender who describes Hoptimus as a bitter beer uneducated. I tasted the Hoptimus last night, and it tasted bitter to me, as well. In fact, it left a taste in my mouth identical to grapefruit juice. I'm not knocking it - I like grapefruit juice. I definitely share your general gripe in the broad sense of having people in service positions that can't adequately describe a product they are serving, though. How would you describe Hoptimus? Just curious. :P

I not saying it is not on the bitter side, but go to NABC and ask some one to describe Hoptimus and they are not going to say, "it is a bitter beer". If Boombozz is going to be a "beer place", they should do a better job at selling a beer. Describing a beer only as bitter is not doing anyone any favors.

I'm not personally big on describing beers as having fruity, citrus, floral, and caramel notes, but that is how this beer should have been described. It does the beer much more justice than just bitter.

The same "bartender" couldn't open a bottle of wine.

Boombozz is still serving great beer and food. They just need to educated their servers and bartenders if they are promoting craft beer.

Eek. Well since my boyfriend is a Boombozz manager (Highlands), I'll put a bug in his ear about these points.

The Village location has a 30ish, skinny, bald, guy that knows his stuff. He did a super job with a lady sitting next to us on beer education. He even explained the BBC East vs BBC West so well that I even understood it.

Well, that's great to know. I don't know him, but they have a new bar manager there, a black guy with skinny dreadlocks that has a ton of experience and as far as I can tell, really seems to know his stuff. Maybe his involvement will be beneficial, too.
