UL baseball, cheap eats, cheap date.

by Ellen P » Sat Feb 27, 2010 12:13 pm

Got this email from UL. Remember UL baseball games are free. I know the food and drink selection isn't great, but you can't beat the prices. Explore Old Louisville and UL's campus while you are at it. We like to drive down on a weekend, planning to only stay awhile, and end up watching the whole game. Great venue.

"Spring is here which means baseball season is too!

The 11th-ranked Louisville baseball team is off to a great start. The
Cards are traveling to the Sunshine State for its first ever appearance
in the second annual Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge hosted by the St.
Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission on Feb. 26-28. The Cards enter
the away competition undefeated, which is best start for the Cardinals
since the 2003 squad opened with six straight wins.

Along with winning and excitement, this season also brings other
opportunities for fans to enjoy Louisville baseball. During the Lenten
Season, every Friday home game will be home to delicious fish fry’s.
Friday’s throughout the season $1 beer will be available as well.
Additionally, every Tuesday and Thursday game will be dollar hot dog
days! What a deal!

And don’t forget that Louisville baseball is fun for all ages. Come
celebrate your child’s birthday with us! Cardinal baseball birthday
parties are a huge hit especially with a guaranteed appearance by Louie
the Cardinal Bird. Kids can sign up to be “Anthem Buddies” where
they get the amazing chance to step on the field and stand with the
players during the National Anthem."

Thanks Robin. I love amateur baseball and need to make it a point to stop in for a few games, especially those UCONN games in late March. I'll be easy to spot decked-out in my National Flag Blue gear. :P
Offlines are always good.

How bad's the beer? Anything beyond corporate megaswill?

No telling, never been. But I have to tell you that I'm not any more hopeful than you are.

I like to play hooky from time to time in the spring and catch a Cards game. In years past the $1 beer was Miller Lite, and as far as I remember the $1 hot dogs are the mechanically-separated chicken variety. I'm not sure if better beer is available, but usually there is someone working a grill cooking brats. Otherwise it is standard concession food--I go for the baseball.

I'll get to the bottom of it when there's time. The key: Who's the concessionaire? That'll tell the tale.
