New Albany Dining

by John NA » Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:47 pm

As I work in downtown New Albany I like to frequent the places downtown.

Wick's is always good for pizza. My only complaint is that it's incredibly loud.

Toast has been a wonderful addition for breakfast and lunch. Everything I have eaten at Toast has been just great. I know it's been in Louisville for years and it's been a welcome addition to New Albany.

I just had dinner at the Windsor the other night for the first time. There was a small group of us and we were the only people in the restaurant. I've eaten lunch there a number of times but never went there in the evening.

The food at the Windsor has always been good, I think. My only complaint there is that the service is often spotty. Sometimes lunch, even when not busy, seems to take a long time. Our service at dinner the other night was excellent. We were the only people there and it would be expected that we'd have great service and we did.

The food was good. I had a grilled pork chop served over mashed potatoes with braised cabbage. Everything was good and the sauce they used was quite tasty. The pork chop was down perfectly and the cabbage was done to perfection. I had a Caesar Salad to start my meal and it needed some more dressing and, frankly, anchovy croutons don't cut it. I'd have greatly preferred real anchovies. The parmesan crisp, however, was excellent.

My wife and I ate at the Bank Street Brewhouse tonight. The place was packed but we got there in the nick of time. We share an exceptional salad with goat cheese, lettuce, and roasted beets. She had the world's largest pork chop done nicely, with a potato cake and fried brussells sprouts. She enjoyed her meal a lot. I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp might have been the best shrimp I've ever eaten. I enjoyed the grits and the roasted carrots a great deal. This was an 'every bite was great' kind of meal. I wish it was a bit larger as if they keep this up, they'll be always mobbed and Yogi Berra's great line may come true that the place is so crowded that no one goes there any more. :D

I would urge you to take a stop at La Rosita.
I doubt that you will regret the visit.

BSB and La Rosita are two of my faves for sure. I took Roger's tip and ordered a quesadilla off of the table tent on our last visit and was extremely happy. Israel has really upped the ante with the new menu additions.

Heavens, I should have mentioned La Rosita. I eat lunch there a great deal and it's always amazing. They serve Mexican food the likes of which I have never seen. It is a real treasure. My apologies for not mentioning it!
