The worst restaurant service I have EVER had

by Michelle R. » Sat Jun 23, 2007 1:09 pm

Last night, we went to Mimi's Cafe for dinner, and our server was completely inept. It is the first time I have ever considered NOT leaving a tip. It would have been a different story if they were busy, but they weren't.

It took forever to get our drinks, first of all, and we were seated RIGHT by the drink machine. We had to ask for drink refills several times before we got them, as well. My husband considered at one point, getting up to refill his own drink. Secondly, my husband accidentally spilled his drink, so we used our napkins to clean up the mess, leaving us with no napkins. We asked him several times for new napkins, which he FINALLY brought us, halfway through our meal. Lastly, our appetizer, salad, and food all arrived within 5 minutes of each other. With 3 people seated at the table, and all those plates, we literally had NO elbow room, and thus, very little room to eat our dinners.

That being said, the food was great. Way overpriced, but delicious, and I found out after we left that they have a "healthy choices" menu that you can request. I'm trying to eat healthfully, so a few healthy options on the regular menu would have been greatly appreciated.

We were going to go have Japanese food, and how we ended up at Mimi's (which has no Japanese food) is a mystery to me. We should have stuck to our original plans, or at least gone to Mojito, which I am DYING to try.

I went to Mimi's for a late breakfast this morning, and it was WONDERFUL......my server was very attentative, the food was well prepped, and I felt like it was a good bang for the buck......what a difference a day makes :?

What a difference a day makes...

by Doug W » Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:59 am

It sure does - I highly recommend avoiding Sunday morning/early afternoons at Mimi's. My wife had been there for lunch on a week day and had a great time, so she picked Mimi's for a post-church brunch yesterday.

We called ahead and got our name on the list. The 20 minutes turned out to be around 35, but hey, it was Sunday... The place was packed and lots of people were waiting. They do offer coffee, juice (kool-aid) and some type of coffee cake for those waiting, which is nice. I only drink the coffee.

Service and wait times for food were not good. Our server did her best and apologized several times for various issues. We had to ask a few times for refills, our food took about 40 minutes and apparently some other server "stole" an order of eggs from us. The food was good, but on the pricey side - I had french toast with eggs and bacon for around $8. When my 9 year old got his grilled cheese ($4.29) he was surprised that it was a half sandwich; so was I. While I agree that portion size has gotten out of control, I think a grill cheese sandwich should be a full sandwich. Oh well.

So, the food was good, but not great, the service was nice but harried and the place was packed. I'm guessing the experience would be better at non-rush times. I'd go back, but certainly not on a Sunday.

Cheers,

Doug.
