Last dinner in Louisville

by Chris Rogers » Fri Jun 22, 2007 2:04 pm

A few months ago I posted about the wonderful dinner that 2 of our good friends from China treated us to at Jasmine. Sadly the time has come for our friends to return to China and we are going to take them to out next Friday for a final dinner together.

At first we thought about returning to Jasmine, but after some thought we decided they'd soon be eating chinese food in CHINA so why make that the last meal they have here in the states.

Where is the place here that is unique to Louisville that would be a great last dinner?

On a side note: I know the owners of Jasmine visit this board - don't worry we'll be in to see you soon as well! :)

I would suggest Jack Fry's for both the great food and great atmosphere. It always seems very 'Louisville' to me.

The Oak Room. A great restaurant in a venue that is about as Louisville as you can get.

You can't get anymore Kentucky/Horsey/Bluegrass than that, and it's not a bad drive out their either

Bill's post gave me an idea:

Have your friends been to true horse country yet? If not, I'd suggest a trip to the Holly Hill Inn. Great representation of Kentucky food, great owners and a beautiful drive in the middle of horse country (and the Bourbon distilleries :D ).

If you don't mind casual think about Mike Lennings. Fried fish, warm summer night, cold beers out under the stars. Not real flashy but might make for a memorable evening.

Old Stone Inn or the more casual Claudia Sanders.

I almost forgot - Our Best in Smithfield. That's about as country as you can get.

I just don't think you can ever go wrong with an evening at Jack Fry's. The ambience is perfect and I have always had the most memorable dining experiences there with friends, an evening filled with incredible food, wine and conversation. :D :D :D [/b]

I'd go to Equus -- fabulous food, especially the sea bass -- AND if you let Dean know you're coming, I'd bet he'd make it even more special. He's just that way.

So our decision has been made - we'll be dining @ Palermo this evening (so long as they call back to confirm our reservations  )

It will be a new experience for all of us, although not uniquely KY, it is unique and a place we've wanted to go for some time. I mentioned to our friends that we'd be having Argentine food this evening and their eyes lit up!
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
