New Restaurants?

by Gayle DeM » Fri Feb 19, 2010 8:36 pm

While I was out and about today I saw some new to me restaurant/ cafe possibilities. Does anyone know anything about these?

In Norton Commons, I drove past Gilberto Gelato, Karem's Grill and Pub, and Tea Station Chinese Bistro and turned left. At the end of that block on the right was an empty building with a big sign in the window that said "Restaurant." ?

Driving back to the Gene Snyder on Hwy. 22 on the left of the Norton Health Care center was a building that said "Farmer's Market & Cafe." ?

That building in Norton Commons has had that sign for quite awhile. I think they're hoping for a restaurant and actually don't have one committed to it.

I believe this is related to the gas station on the other side of the building. Sounds better than Food Mart.

There are several store fronts in Norton Commons that could be restaurants, but the one on the corner, of Meeting Street, I believe, is getting ready 'to open'. The windows are covered with paper. Hiring signs are on the windows. Saw restaurant equipment vans in front of there recently.

Looking forward to the spring thaw. Love walking around Norton Commons. It reminds us of Seaside, FL. When 22 is widened, and surely they will put in sidewalks, we will walk to NC, dine, window shop/shop. Can't wait. That hill on 22 might keep from riding my bike - or at least I'll walk it up that hill and ride the rest of the way.

Can't wait for sidewalks. It's not safe to walk/bike around that part of the city. I accepted the fact that when I moved back into the Ville decades ago, that where we lived - teaching in OC at the time - that we would have to drive to anywhere we needed to go. Now that there is so much so close, we still have to drive because it isn't safe. Hate to lose the narrow winding road but too many people now. Use to be cows, corn, stop signs. Now people, cars, traffic lights.

Oh well.

We have been working on a project for the spot in Norton's Commons. We have a verbal but, nothing in contract as of yet. So...mum's still the word!

Funny you ask about the stuff in Norton Commons, I was up there this weekend and planned on writing a review. I had lunch a few weeks ago at Tea Station and absolutely loved it! I have finally found good chinese! I took my husband there over the weekend and he was very impressed as well. The hot and sour soup is perfectly balanced and flavorful. We tried the twice cooked pork and the general tso's chicken as well as the lettuce wraps. Everything was very good, no funky flavors, nothing too sweet or floating in sauce. The prices are very good, our meal was around $35 for soup, appetizer, and 2 entrees. At lunch everything is in the $6-$8 range and comes with soup and cheese wontons that are pretty tasty. It's very well decorated and feels much more upscale than the prices dictate and the service was very good. If you order a spicy dish, you will want to tell them how spicy you like it.

We also went to Gilberto Gelato and it was quite a treat! They will let you mix and match flavors which I really liked. I had a chocolate cheesecake and tiramisu flavors. Both were very good, but I really liked the chocolate cheesecake, it had a strong cream cheese tartness to it. I can't remember what concoction the hubby put together, but he was very happy with his selection as well.

I'm glad to hear that a new restaurant is on the horizon. It seems so often these days that we only hear about closings, but openings are a much more joyous affair.
