New Vegetarian Option- YogaEats

by Deb Hall » Fri Feb 19, 2010 12:31 pm

All,

I received this from my friend Rachel Colvin, and wanted to share with you all. For those who don't know her, Rachel is an incredibly talented chef who is the pastry chef for a number of top restaurants in town and creates the prepared foods at Amazing Grace. I'm sure the food will be wonderful if you get a chance to stop-by.

Am I reading it correctly that their box lunches are priced at $30/serving? Ouch.

If so, it isn't really an "option" for most folks...

It does seem some what confusing as to what you get. As best as I can interpret you get the following for $120 and half of the following for $65. So, 2 soups, 4 salads, 4 entrees, 2 desserts, loaf of bread, 2 avocados. Doesn't specify how much you get of each, weights, or how many each entree will serve.

Soups: Vegan Pozole Soup
Quinoa Achiote and Kale Soup
Salads: Vegan Ninja Salad
Mixed fresh fruit
Bruce Ucan's Roasted Lima Beans
Fennel/arugula/blood orange/red onion salad--blood orange/macadamia vinaigrette
Entrees: Yucatecan Bake--plantains/mole/black beans/brown rice
Ooohmami™ sausage/roasted red pepper tomato stuffed portabellos with crispy panko crust
Pesto Gnocchi
Veggie Empanadas
Snacks: Dark chocolate hazelnut goji berry bark
Caramel tahini sticky toffee pudding
Every Week: loaf 9 grain
2 avocados

Hello! I am Rachel Torres' (Colvin is the maiden name) brother, Adam Colvin. I want to clear this up a bit for my hotbytes peeps because at first I was kinda confused but as you will see this is a pretty nice deal (at least IMO ;)). Also, to be open about my position, I am the Marketing and Sales director for Dolce, the company who will be making the food for the Yoga Eat's program.

On the website it states "Half Order $65 (about 2 servings) Full Order $120 (about 4 servings)" which I can understand to be confusing because it forgets to also state that this means 2 and 4 servings of EVERY item on the menu list.

For example say you order a full box of items for the first week you would receive:

4 servings of Vegan Pozole Soup
4 servings of Quinoa Achiote and Kale Soup
4 servings of Vegan Ninja Salad
4 servings of Mixed fresh fruit
4 servings of Bruce Ucan's Roasted Lima Beans
4 servings of Fennel/arugula/blood orange/red onion salad--blood orange/macadamia vinaigrette
4 servings of Yucatecan Bake--plantains/mole/black beans/brown rice
4 servings of Ooohmami™ sausage/roasted red pepper tomato stuffed portabellos with crispy panko crust
4 servings of Pesto Gnocchi
4 servings of Veggie Empanadas
4 servings of Dark chocolate hazelnut goji berry bark (<--- Awesome!)
4 servings of Caramel tahini sticky toffee pudding
One full loaf of 9 grain
2 avocados

For a total of 48 servings, one full loaf of fresh bread, and two avocados for $120. For a half box it would be 24 total servings, a half loaf of bread, and two avocados for $60. I hope this gives more clarity and maybe sparks your interest in this healthy food option. Thank you!

Yes, thanks for the clarification. As a single person I could see the half serving feeding me for a week most likely which is a pretty good deal for healthy prepared food.

Oh, it does state $65 on the website for the 1/2 order? Thanks.

Oooh, so you're THAT Adam - great idea and best of luck to you both! I'm very tempted and I decided to change my diet recently (eliminating land creatures) but I'm trying to prepare food at home and get reaquainted with the kitchen. The 65 for a half order sounds very reasonable for what you get, though. I wish you were in the highlands.

Ok....that helps a lot. Now it looks reasonably priced. I think if I was marketing it, I'd make it clear that you're getting four servings of everything, not just four servings. I was imagining much much less when I read the initial marketing description...I'm sure they don't want to lose customers who think it is too pricey (when it really isn't....)

Cheers!

P.S. Adam, are you sure you really get that much? Now it has gone from seeming to expensive, to seeming too cheap!
