Name of bar in St. Matthews?

by Ellen P » Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:46 pm

It's west of Gerstles. Past the Vogue area. On a sidestreet nearby, between Frankfort and Lexington. There is a Z in the name. Almost like cahoots.
Has anyone been there? It looks inviting but we forget and pass it by.
Thanks

Yeah, Zazoo's.

I used to go there "years" ago at the height of the "poker craze" to play in a Thursday night bar game. Haven't been back in years. I can't really recall a reason for not going back; guess it just feel off the radar.

The food is so-so. The bar options are so-so. I probably wouldn't go back now because of the way the building is arranged. The shotgun walkway is between the bar and the wall, such that the opening of bathroom doors and people walking by tends to disrupt people setting at the bar.

But that was year's ago. Maybe it's changed.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

I've only been to Zazoo's once...
Honestly - at first glance... I really liked the way the place looked and felt. Kinda reminded me of what you'd see in a movie - like some kids in high school... someone's parents are out of town... they throw some crazy party in this bad ass rec-room in the basement... that's what it reminded me of.

Unfortunately, it was quickly unbearable (at least for me and the guys I was with), because it pretty much felt like we accidentally ended up at a frat party. I quickly finished the initial beer I ordered and left for more familiar and comfortable surroundings.

This is also why I avoid the majority of the places lining the Baxter Avenue corridor and all of Fourth Street Live.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

ZaZoo's on a weeknight in the summer is awesome. Light to moderate crowd, cheap drinks, jukebox w/ speakers on the patio and flatscreens. They also have a lot of the PPV MMA fights, if you're into that kinda thing. The bartenders are all very friendly as well.

Thanks for the comments. I may not be the target, so we might stop by on a late Sat. afternoon to check it out. Can't wait for Spring weather and trolley hops.
