It's fish fry time!!!

by Beth K. » Thu Feb 18, 2010 10:19 am

Yum!

Last year we had a thread with a list of local fish fry dates. I was hoping we could get another going for this year.

(EDIT - I deleted that link, because on further inspection it was from 2008)

Does anyone know any dates or have any links to a list?

Not to get competitive or anything, but I think it's intriguing that after many years of Roman Catholic domination of the local field, an Episcopal church is joining the fish-fry fray this year ... St. Mark's, which is conveniently located on the Frankfort Avenue restaurant row about halfway between Porcini and Blue Dog, will have Friday fries weekly from 5-7 p.m. for at least four weeks starting this week. I have not yet determined whether Chardonnay will replace the customary beer.

Good one, Robin. As an Episcopalian myself, I'm totally with the Chardonnay concept! :P

St. Josephs in Butchertown is a good lunch choice if you work in the downtown area. The fish is solid and the church might be one of the most beautiful I have seen.

The Archdiocese of Louisville usually has a link to the fish fries for most of their churches on their website, but alas, it is not there yet. Being that I work for them and I am getting calls daily for this information, I am pushing for it to be up soon. I will let you know when it is up and running. Yes, St. Joe's in Butchertown has a good one, so does, St. Leonard, St. Lawrence, St. Patrick, St. James, St. Therese, St. Margaret Mary, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Agnes, St. Aloysius...etc. etc....

Connie, that was the original link that I provided, but it was for 2008.

Keep us posted - I would love an updated one!

St. Elizabeth's on Burnett in Schnitzelburg starts this Friday, 2-19 and goes every Friday through March 26. They list it as 5 pm - ? -I would guess 5-7 or 8.

(let's just pretend that had any resemblance to AP style, or any style for that matter.)

We live near St. Mark's but go to St. Matthew's, but I'm a big fan of St. Mark's, too, and Charles and Anne and the other people on staff are good folks. We'll definitely support their fish fry, whether the beverage of choice is beer or Chardonnay or iced tea.

I so adore the idea of wine at a fish fry.

A favorite Episcopalian wine joke... it can go for Catholics as well:

A priest is driving down the highway and gets pulled over. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest's breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car.

He says, "Father, have you been drinking?"

"Just water," says the priest.

The trooper says, "Then why do I smell wine?"

The priest looks at the bottle and says, "Good Lord! He's done it again!"

St. Luke's in Anchorage has a fish fry every Friday during Lent from 6:00 to 8:00. Carry out is also available.

St. Patrick out in the far east end on North Beckley Station, had a fish fry last night, and will do so for the next four Fridays...it's from 5-8....I am likely biased, but I firmly believe that they have the best fish sandwich of all of them....They are using a North Atlantic cod, cutting and breading it all themselves....they are using panko....it is some awesome stuff, check it out. Also they have thick breaded onion rings, and huge steak fries as well.

Another Episcopalian fish fry! I thought St. Mark's was the only one. Thanks for info, Marybeth!

I can't imagine that anyone would be biased about their own fish fry??

Guardian Angels and St. Bernard are my two favorites.
