signs of the apocalypse???

by Andrew Hutto » Mon Feb 15, 2010 9:25 pm

being fairly immune to most outside sources of information... i went to my local valu-market ( mid-city mall ) just after one p.m. yesterday to pick up a few things that we were low on at the restaurant. the place was packed. i am thinking... "what the hell are all of these people doing here, grocery shopping, during a louisville / syracuse game???
seriously!!!
has feeding your family become more important than basketball???
are people believing that a weather 'fore'cast might actually be accurate?
if grocery companies are publically held, can anyone buy their stock, or do the weather people control it all?
all of the major streets in louisville ( at least in my world of alta ave, to bardstown rd., to payne st ) looked as if it never snowed? ( two thumbs up to dept. of public works, they have been rockin' it!)
school was actually called off before 4:45 a.m.? the day before???
the list goes on... i am sure the world will end soon!

Hilarious, Hutto! You and I are of the same commute feather - I live off bardstown rd (Midland - just a few blocks away) and head straight through to downtown where the passage is well travelled and always plowed. We may have been at the mkt at the same time cause I was there yesterday around 1! But then I get on Facebook where everyone is updating frustration and fatique and getting SNOW DAYS from work. My mom, however, lives in the "elevated" area of Geogetown, Ind, at the end of a two steep hills dead end and when we get one inch of melting snow, she's three degrees colder with 4 inches and trapped (20 minutes from here, no joke). It's the funniest thing cause she's sooo busy busy busy all the time with commitments that an average person does not relate to, and we tease her for choosing to live where she lives for the excuse of being trapped.

Where in G-town? I grew up there. Walnut Street, couple blocks up from Main.

I guess she's officially in Edwardsville because she's to the left of the G-town exit, but just past Polly's Freeze on Hancock Rd maybe a mile from the off ramp. Such a sweet little greater Louisville area of town. Feels sooo country but it's so flippin close to everything as long as the Highlands have less than an inch of snow (reiterating the fact that she lives on a dead end road of two very steep hills).

Just made the trek in from Crestwood via 146 into St Matthews. Roads were all clear inside the county (Jefferson) line but 146 was still icy and slow going in Oldham Co. About a 25 minute drive from 329 by-pass to the county line there at Juicy's. My car is VERY light so I had to be careful. My MR2 handles like a cat on crak with it's tail on fire when I drive on slick roads. (WHEEEEE!!!) With a great deal more weight I could have gone a bit faster but not much. Just FYI.

My car drives like a giraffe on roller skates in poor weather. I dare not travel out until the SECOND day of a storm has passed; gives people plenty of time to plow and secondary roads a chance to form ruts.

Here's a game for a snowy day!

Let's see how many things you can find wrong with this picture.

i can't believe that robin didn't get on here and dog the c-j about that photo!!! of all of the great snow pics out there, they publish that???
in regards to the problems with the photo... obviously... the guy driving is an idiot. when i drive my kids around on a scooter on icy streets, i protect the shovels first! the shovels have to be held high. i insist that my kids hang out sideways as this guys shovels were. it is so hard to shovel snow with a bent shovel!
