Treet's Bakery Cafe at 133 E. Market in downtown New Albany is a very comfortable place to eat good food, drink coffee or just hang out while using WiFi. They also have a few tables with umbrellas outside and owner, Teresa Clancy, has a very welcoming attitude.

Also, Perkfection at Spring and Maple in Jeffersonville. No longer just a coffee shop since new owners have put the kitchen to work--soups, salads, paninis, along with broad coffee selections, make this a good place to stop. A very comfortable space with original art, window scape and a lot of locals stopping by at different times of day.

Let's admit there's some awkwardness about this topic. Using electronic gadgets while dining--whether cellphones, Blackberries, or laptops--seems inappropriate, even rude if company is involved.
But these tools are becoming more a part of our workday life which, as posts here prove, some restaurants are trying to accommodate. Getting on the web is no longer that much different than reading the paper while having breakfast.
Internet access is typical and expected at coffee shops. Restaurants hopefully can keep the focus on dining. But there is a middle ground.
The two places I mentioned (Treet's and Perkfection) seem to be aspiring to become comfortable cafes where it is O.K. to hang out over a coffee or before or after eating a good meal. I appreciate that and don't take it as a signal it's O.K. to start hauling out my laptop at dinner.

Amen to that. Most places mentioned in this thread are coffee places, but when I saw Ferd Grisanti's chime in w/ WI-FI, I almost lost it. Put the d*** thing away (along w/ the cell phone/Blackberry) while dining.
