Annoying Misinformation

by GaryF » Thu Jun 21, 2007 2:09 pm

I had an incident with a restaurant on Sunday that could easily been avoided with some employee training. A friend and I were at a performance at UofL and I knew we would be dining late on Sun nite-10ish- and that my choices would be limited. I was hoping for a Crescent Hill/St Matthews venue as that would be closer to home for both my friend and myself. The only place that came to mind was North End and I called them in the afternnon to make sure they would be open and serving that late. I was told that they served until 11 and that we would have plenty of time to dine.
Well, guess what? When we pulled up at 10 they were closed and I was told that they always close at 10 on Sunday. The server I spoke with was very apologetic and suggested Ramsi's, which is where we ended up.
It would have been so much easier and SO much less frustrating for us to have hit the Highlands without a side trip to C.H., not to mention the waste of time and gas.
I emailed the management about the incident when I got home thinking an apology from them would be in order, but since I am still waiting 4 days later I decided to post here.
Although I was livid at the time, all I was looking for was acknowledgement since I know that human error is a fact of life.
Without that acknowledgement I am still carrying a grudge.
There is a lesson in there somewhere.

i refuse to go to the same restaurant for exactly that reason. at least four times i have gone during posted business hours and they were either closed up tight or told us that they were closing. it is very annoying to get a group of friends together and all end up standing on the street trying to figure out where to go next.

All apologies to Gary F., Krista K., and any of our other valued guests who have experienced such an incident. We are open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner- 8am to 10pm with extended hours on Friday and Saturday nights. Not only do I inform employees about our hours of operation but I also keep a list of such information posted beside every phone in the building. I apologize for the miscommunication which was an unintentional mistake. We do close at 10pm on Sundays- not 11pm as was conveyed on the phone. I will review this policy with my staff. I apologize in advance for any other incidents of human error that may deter guests from enjoying our fine establishment and will continue to look for ways to improve our hospitality. Thank you Gary for bringing this to my attention. I apologize for the frustrating events of Sunday night as well as for not checking the company e-mail in a timelier manner. I hope that my staff was apologetic and helpful when confronted with your frustration.

We are a local, independent restaurant and try to stay open as much as possible- we are even open most holidays. We offer three meals a day and provide on or off site catering. At times we have closed a little early if it is extremely slow, to cut the cost of labor which without sales can really hurt a small business. More often we stay a little later. We love this industry and only put in 14 plus hours a day with the hope of pleasing everyone who supports us by walking through the door- from the very first guest to the last.

The staff, management, and owners of North End Cafe take a great deal of pride in our Restaurant. Please visit us soon.

Sincerely,
T.K. Wismer
North End Cafe

Some of the WORST service I have ever had in my life was from that same venue. Eye rolling and a sigh when I asked for more water. Then dropped the plate from a few inches when the meal came. Might as well have thrown it. I guess that gal was having a bad day. I thought it was kind of funny though, but i have a weird sense of humor. I also liked the restaurant called Dicks for the same reason. It's funnier to me when its real though. I just tend to pay for my food rather than the service in those cases.
Im not a food"ie", I am a food"er".

I appreciate the apology and will make a return visit-earlier in the evening.
