I need some ideas!

by Michelle R. » Thu Jun 21, 2007 1:29 pm

My husband's birthday is coming up, and I need some ideas for a special place to take him. He loves all types of food, and so do I, but we have a tendency to eat at the same 4 or 5 places regularly. I'm looking for someplace nice, yet affordable, comfortable, but not TOO casual.

I've been grilling him for weeks now about where he wants to go, but he's decided that he isn't deciding anything, and I need to make reservations soon. Arrgh. Anyway, suggestions, please!

I've had birthday meals at L&N and Basa and both were wonderful!

Third Avenue Cafe at Third & Oak -- great eats, affordable, casual but not too casual, they have entertainment sometimes, and I think the place is terrific for a date.

Asiatique gets my vote. Or maybe August Moon...on the deck. Then too...Havana Rumba.

My vote if for Limestone!
Since you both enjoy all types of food...the "Feed Me Chef" is especially fun. Free wine pairing at 9:00 or later!
I believe it is 5 smaller courses for $55...but confirm on their website if you are interested.

Have never had a bad meal at Limestone!

Beef O'Brady's, at least the one at Floyds Knobs, has a free meal on your birthday promotion. Have a cheap lunch there, and maybe go someplace even better for supper.

You're really getting a broad range of input here, Michelle, so broad that I almost think you might be better off trying to narrow it down.

Would you care to give us a more specific range of what you consider (1) affordable, either in terms of total bill or range of main-dish prices; and (2) what you would consider "TOO casual."

I'm thinking that armed with this information we can help you more ... I'm guessing, though, that Asiatique or Limestone might not pass your affordability test and that Beef O'Brady might not pass your casual test.

I was thinking someplace where 2 people can eat for around $100-$150, yet comfortable enough where we don't have to get dressed in our Sunday best, as it were. I'm not opposed to dressing up, I just don't want to go anywhere that's too "stuffy." Does that help? These are all GREAT suggestions. Keep 'em coming! :D

My birthday is coming up in July, and my husband and I are planning on going to Seviche. The food is fabulous, and you should not have a problem staying within your price range even with a few drinks.

Well, this doesn't meet the criteria for the dress code but ...... I took my girlfriend to Rivue for her birthday and it caught her by complete suprise. We have been to probably 95% of the nicer restaurants in town but she hadn't caught wind of that one before I took her.I timed it so we were eating with the sun setting at 25 stories high over the Ohio.... best view in town.We had two appetizers, soups, bottle of wine, two entrees, and desert for around a 150 with a great tip. They give out gourmet candy bags to go also.... nice little treat. She still talks about it. It was a great experience.

$100-$150 for two sounds somewhat expensive to me. When I read "affordable", I think under $60 for two.
