What's the Best Thing YOU Ever Ate - Sweet Treats

by Steve P » Mon Feb 08, 2010 7:56 pm

Once again, why should the Food Network people have all the fun...With Valentines Day just around the corner, what is the best "Sweet Treat" YOU ever ate. I'll start.

Strawberries..I LOVE 'em, especially right out of the garden. Cover 'em with chocolate and I go into convulsions of joy.

Your next.

Chocolate Fetish in Asheville, NC...anything... especially like the Chai Moon truffles and the Sea Salt Caramels... it's a 7 hour drive right now (interstate from knoxville had a landslide) but sooo worth it!

Modjeskas and my father's Mocha Dacquoise, which is affectionately known in our house as "crack cake" because you can't stay away from it until you're in insulin shock.
Madeline - so excited about your suggestion - we are headed to Asheville on Thursday for the weekend and I adore salted caramels. I know where to send the hubby to pick up valentines! (How was the detour?)

I second that. I could eat a dozen if they were hot of the line!

When "Mamma Grisanti's" was still in business, they occasionally made a "Grand Marnier" cake that was FAN-tastic!

Locally: The salted caramel ice cream at Comfy Cow needs to be regulated by the FDA, man that stuff is addictive.

Worldwide: I'll have to mull that one over.

Amy... I found this http://www.ncdot.org/traffictravel/ it should help you with your travel plans. We always go through Knoxville since I have family there and then go up I-81 to Johnson City since I have a place there, it's about an hour over to Asheville from there and it's always a beautiful drive. From here though you can go another way and avoid Knoxville, but it looks to be about the same amount of time with the detour.

Chocolate Fetish is downtown http://www.chocolatefetish.com/index.php and there are numerous great restaurants within walking distance and a really neat local art district around the Woolworth building down the street from CF. Another cool place to check is http://www.greenlifegrocery.com, it's what Whole Foods should be...local, sustainable and affordable...I have more fun in that store!!

Ed...agree that salted caramel should be regulated...but keep your hands off my tiramisu! I'm looking forward to the Valentine's Day chocolate flavors they are making...if I don't get lured in by the caramel or tiramisu first!
