New pizza place opening in Irish Triangle

by Scott Campbell » Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:36 am

During the past week I've noticed some workmen renovating the old J. Gumbo's on Baxter near Molly Malone's. I stopped there Saturday and asked them what was coming in. Unfortunately, my memory sucks and I've already forgotten the name, but it's going to be a NY style pizza place named Papa Lin-something's. (Don't quote me on that.) On one hand, I'm not sure how much we need another pizza joint in the neighborhood, but on the other hand, it'll be nice to get individual slices without having to walk all the way down to Spinelli's.

Let's hope its an improvement on Spinelli's (shouldn't be hard).

Does anyone know if they are connected to the Papalinos in Berea KY? If so, we can expect good pie. It was one of our favorite spots to visit after a good fishing trip. Their breadsticks are unreal, about 2 inches in diameter, about 6-7 inches long, served in a tray of melted real butter. Great stuff.

I hope they are a branch of Papalino's in Berea as they do make a pretty good pie, if not then those pesky trademark guardians are always on the prowl.

I have lost hope that they are related. I googled the spot in Berea and it is spelled Papa Leno's :(

Finally, some less than glowing words about Spinelli's. I hate that place. The food is gross and the service is even worse.

The gentleman I spoke was wearing a shirt with the restaurant's logo on it and the way I remember it (and once again my memory is really bad) the logo had two words on it, and the first word was Papa, as in Papa John's. So I'm guessing it is a branch of the Berea spot.

The name of the restaurant is Papalino's Pizzaria, its not related the the Berea spot. Allan Rosenberg, formerly of Danielle's on Frankfort Ave, is the owner. I think he is shooting for the first week of March for the opening.

I hope the pizza is better than the website. Why do websites tend to have some annoying amateurish music that sounds like their kid wrote it.
From what I've heard that building might fall in around them and we will be spared a NY pizza from Berea. Too funny!

It is not the same place as in Berea.

Spinelli's is great if you're more than a little tipsy and need something other than alcohol in your stomach. It kind of reminds me of Lucy Blue's up in Covington just off the Mainstrasse in that respect. Open until after the bars close down, close by the aforementioned bars, reasonably cheap.
