Azalea to reopen as new restaurant

by Jessica Devine » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:19 pm

Fox 41 just reported that the Azalea building will become a new restaurant. I think they said the owners are the same people as 211 Clover Lane and it will be called Monterey. Does anyone have any more info on this? I'm excited for that patio to make its return.

I heard the word Gastropub used- but that is third or fourth hand.

It looks like they'll be sharing property with a Rite Aid.

That's certainly a very confusing article. In one place it states that the new restaurants will be built on the footprint of the old Azaleas but then later in the article that talks about the difficulties they will face because the historic significance of the building. I hope they're going to save the existing building in many ways.

I'm surmising that they're going to demo only a portion of the building, leaving the "core" and patio intact and rebuild around that.

Here is an article that was in The Voice Tribune last week that will add some more details.

Isn't there a Rite-Aid just down and across the street from the Chase at Brownsboro and Chenoweth?

Also, did you all happen to notice that they said they'll be featuring pizzas and have a wood-burning stove? It's an answer to our foodie prayers, I hope.

Yes there is but all of the drugstore chains are now building freestanding stores and getting out of plaza locations. If you look around you will see many new stores and all of them are freestanding/unattached buildings.

I noticed that and hopefully they will kind of follow along the lines of what Proof was doing.

Any word on this? I drove by over the weekend, and there didn't appear to be anything going on.

I heard today that it was 211 Clover folks that are opening in this space.
