what's near the Holiday Inn SW?

by Megan Watts » Sun Feb 07, 2010 10:56 am

I have a friend coming in town from high school and he's going to be staying there. I'm not sure what's on that side of town. Anyone have recommendations of where to eat, or should we just shuttle ourselves down to Havana Rumba?

Vietnam Kitchen is sort of in that area. There's not much outside of chains in Shivley or on Dixie HWY.

Dan's right - pretty much Chain Central. If you want to go a bit, but not as far as HR:

Jessie's Family Restaurant 9609 Dixie Highway country, family type simple fair

Tuscany Italian - 7895 Dixie Hwy (I think that is right across from that hotel) I have been multiple time to the one on the Outer Loop near
Walmart - Great specials - the Scallops Piccatta are wonderful

Little Jeruselem on Taylor Blvd. at I-264- have not been yet, but hear good things

Annie's on Woodlawn -another Vietnamese option

Da Lat Cafe on Southside Dr.- have great Vietnamese sandwiches

Shack in th Back in Fairdale - BBQ

Chili Pot on Preston- So far not a bad chili in the lot

Ok..so we'll definitely be driving to another part of town then.
I guess the 2nd part of my question should be...

If you had someone coming in town and could only take them to 1 meal, and you weren't on a big budget, where would you take them?

Are they a picky eater? I know you mentioned Havana Rumba, but are there any things your friend will not eat? Likes in particular?

He said he's not picky at all. My husband, however, wont eat Asian food..so VK is out. We also wont do Mexican since my friend is from PHX and we've both eaten a lifetime of good Mexican food. (Not that you can ever have enough..but you know.)
