Havana Rumba II to Pig City?

by Robin Garr » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:56 am

I don't have this from the horse's mouth yet, but from several well-placed sources, it looks like another branch of Havana Rumba will be going into the Middletown shopping center space vacated by Pig City.

This is good news for East Enders, and I have to wonder how it plays into the recent appearance of Cocos Lokos off Hurstbourne under the management of former Havana Rumba staff. Competition is a good thing, right?

Yeah, but they really are not too close too one another so I'd not worry about it. People in J-Town are still severely limited with their decent food choices without going to common restaurants; CL is a great change.

I agree that J-Towners need some more options. In that regards new ownership is taking over Maggie's,and revamping the menu, pricing, etc. I expect it to pop off nicely now. They are bringing in a quality chef that has a ton of experience in a lot of this forum's favorite restaurants. I can't wait.

GREAT news about Maggies. I was saddened to see it shut down. Hopefully the' new owners will learns from the mistakes of the past. Only new advice I can give is to lower their prices. Some of their listings were a little questionable..

The lease has been signed, so I'd say it is going to happen.

WOW! Soooooweeeeeet!

I wonder how this will effect Zapata’s Corner? I know they have different menu's (Mexican vs Cuban), but they are not too different to think they will be competing for the same customers. Maybe this could help Zapata's? If HB is too busy, just walk down to Zapata's?

There's El Toro next to Shalimar across from Coco Loco's and they all seem to be operating rather well in J-Town.

Hope they have better luck with the landlord than Pig City did. I got an earful about those folks one afternoon when I visited Pig City. That huge sucking sound you used to hear when driving by was profits flying out the door to pay for extremely exorbitant rent.

The same reason Pepper Wood and many other stores vacated this area. Apparently, the land owner believed he owned land as exclusive as Oxmoor Mall.
