Gallery House B&B Review

by Steve A » Wed Feb 03, 2010 7:58 pm

Realizing that practically all readers of HotBytes reside in Louisville, a review of a bed and breakfast might not seem terribly useful here. That said, some of you might have friends or relatives coming to town and need a place for them to stay. Have I found the place for them!

For starters, booking a room is a breeze as this particular B&B has an easily-navigated presence on the web that lets you view room options (there are three), check availability and book your selection online. For us that process went smoothly, and we chose their western themed room.

Arriving in Louisville, we found the Gallery House location to be easy to find. They are situated in an Old Louisville neighborhood a stone's throw from historic St. James court with convenient on-street parking.

Upon check in we were greeted by innkeepers Leah and Gordon, and found them to be gracious and accommodating hosts. Though it is in a new building, the B&B is impeccably decorated to match the charm of a period home. The artwork on all the walls is a feast for the eyes, and the furnishings are modern and comfortable. Barbara and I found our room to be a comfortable size with en suite bath (ours was a shower only, the other rooms had tubs). The rooms are well equipped with cable television, small fridge, clock radio, phone, iron and ironing board. Most importantly, the bed was very comfortable and every night we enjoyed a good night's sleep.

Since the second "B" in B&B stands for breakfast, this review would not be complete without mention of our morning meal. Each morning we were given the choice of hot cereal, an egg dish or batter-based dish. In the vernacular of the day, all I can say is OMG. On different days we had omelets, scrambled eggs, waffles, pancakes and hot oatmeal. The eggs were perfectly cooked, but for me the real standouts were the pancakes. On one day I was treated to a creation of the house called pineapple upside down pancakes. These were served with a tangy syrup made from pineapple juice, and at the same time were both sweetness and light. Another day I enjoyed berry pancakes that had a hint of lemon. The pancakes were consistently light and fluffy, and along with a cup of their coffee a perfect start to our day.

All in all, at the Gallery House Bed and Breakfast the combination of a comfortable room, wonderful hosts, delicious breakfasts, and reasonable room rates made for a most pleasant stay.

Oh, Steve A., what a WONDERFUL review! I wish I had a reason to spend a few days there, but this will not be forgotten when I have people in town. Surely I would have thought to mention it to visitors anyway, because this is Leah Stewart's place, but I've never been there and I feel like I just took a tour.

And more importantly - you were here! What else did you do??? Oooh, I can't wait to hear more from you about the city/town. You're like our new Steve or Phil! And I know Gayle wants to plan a welcome party for your arrival, of which I hope to be invited. That'll be sometime in the spring? Once you've survived one more winter up there?

Not so fast, missy. It's not a done deal.

We were in Louisville "on assignment." That's our story and we're sticking to it.

Don't want to jinx things.
