Red Hot Roasters helping Cayo's Heroic Trip to Haiti

by Sondra P » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:54 am

Visit the Red Hot Roaster’s cafe in the Egan Leadership Center at Spalding University February 1st through the 5th and support Cayo’s trip to Haiti. 25% of all profits that week will be donated to Cayo’s Haiti fund!

From Cayo:

Hello friends and soon to be friends-Thank you so much for your interest in my endeavor to help the people of Haiti.
For those of you who don't know me and probably some of you that do- I am Nurse, a Certified Nurse Midwife and an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Spalding University. I have lived in Louisville for almost 14 years minus a stint in NYC for graduate school. I have an almost 10 year nursing career spent primarily in ER and ICU nursing- I have been a midwife for 5 years and I currently work at the Clark County Health Department providing prenatal care. It is this variety of experience that makes me an asset to health teams in Haiti. I am seeking donations to help me get to Haiti so that I can use the skills that I have and put my damn expensive education to some good use.
Most of the organizations out there are overwhelmed with people wanting to help but like myself most people can only go for a week to 10 days. Because of this the turnover rate is high and organizations can't spend all of their money flying people back and forth. Any money raised that is not used for either my travel expenses or other expenses- immunizations like typhoid- I mean who has that one-protective gear or any food I need to take will be donated to others in my travel group to offset their cost and anything after that will be donated to EDGE so that they may continue their work around the world. I have posted a link to the EDGE website please feel free to visit it.
I would appreciate it if you would ask your friends and friends of friends to join the group.
While I am away my husband will post updates to this site- won't you babe? and on my return I will post pictures so that you can see where your money went.
No amount is too small- please help in any way you can.
Blessings and gratitude
Cayo K. Alba
