Cafe on 5th

by Beth K. » Fri Jan 29, 2010 10:00 am

I noticed a new sign this week that "Cafe on 5th" is moving into the space where Down to Lunch used to be. (Basement, 5th & Jefferson) Does anyone know anything about the new place?

I made it in to Cafe on 5th for lunch this week. They have a pretty decent selection of salads and sandwiches and several daily soups. They also serve breakfast all day. I had a spinach salad and my friend had a cobb. (Not very adventuresome, I know!) Both were generous in size, and all ingredients were very fresh. No complaints. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked really good - hot browns, burgers, quesadillas. I'll definitely be back to try something else.

It's traditional counter service - move to one window to order and another to pick up food. The line to order was pretty slow-going, but once we got our order in, the food was pretty quick.

The best news to me was that they deliver! It's nice to have another delivery option downtown.

I had a very nice lunch from there served at a meeting I attended today. Variety of sandwiches with several different kinds of bread and yummy-looking ingredients, a very good bean and salsa salad, and a pasta salad. Good meeting food!

I work in the building and have been very pleased with their sandwiches and salads. I enjoy having a convenient location to get a simple but well prepared salad. As an added bonus the staff has been incredibly warm and accommodating.
