Trans Fat Ban

According to the Courier Journal, it looks like the food police WILL be recommending a trans fat ban. Thoughts?

Yes it was. My post was to reflect the article in the CJ today, stating that they will most likely be recommending a ban.

I'm of the opinion that it will be useless legislation for something impossible to enforce. They should just go with a voluntary and then graduating to a mandatory labeling program for items containing trans-fat. I believe they would have better results.
OR, to be fair make it a total ban including all products including retail outlets as well. They are exempt because product labeling makes us all informed consumers.
Last time I checked I didn't see any labels on the salad bar dressings at Kroger's.
I figured this was coming from the overall tone of the forum I attended last October. I really didn't get answers to the questions I asked then about how a ban would or could be enforced.
Once again, just for the record I would like to clarify that I'm not against a healthy diet. All things in moderation I say. I just see this as frivolous legislation that ultimately will do little good. There are bigger issues for the Metro Council to tackle than to be wasting time on this.

My concern is people will start to believe they are able to eat more food because it's free of Trans Fat. Essentially, ordering a Diet Coke with a Large Pizza.

I go to the gym 5 days a week, so I'm all for a healthy lifestyle. That being said, when I want to indulge, it should be MY choice whether I want to consume a locally made product with trans fats, or without. This is supposed to be a FREE country. Is it really necessary for the food police to tell us what we can and can't eat? What's next? Sugar? Saturated fat? Where does it end? I'm not at all happy with this decision.

Since there is no "second hand smoke" associated with trans fat, I believe this ban to be a violation of basic rights. Also, doesn't the Louisville Metro Council have bigger problems to address rather than playing "mother" to the citizenry?

The article went on to say that although the Health Dept is for the ban, there's not much energy on the council for it. It's gonna make it really hard on small businesses and in the midst of a recession, it's not a time to be increasing our costs.
