The Next Thing...

by Stephen D » Wed Jan 27, 2010 2:48 am

So the next event of mention I have coming up is a BVS dinner that, once again, is the first of it's kind in the world, as far as I can tell (I'm growing a bit bored with that label, so don't expect me to use it again!)

Remember the old 'choose your adventure' books? This night will be designed around this concept. I'll be producing the appertifs and digestifs, but will keep my happy self in the kitchen throughout the meal proper...

'Follow the black night into the cave... page 173'

'No, Lois, iI kept my finger on the page! You saw me!'

Peter Griffen, as good as it gets!

Jo and I are putting the quasi-final touches on a meal where no two meals will be EXACTLY alike. The goal is that each person will have their own personal experience, unlike anyone else's. This one is going to be 5 courses because we learned 7 tends to wear down diners at Bill's house. Heck, I can cook till 5 in the morning, yet I honestly think 5 courses gets the point across. /shrug And the venue is well served, as these people don't care to have the stamina necessary for an ElBulli kinda-tasting...

So, the idea is that we have two mother menus, and that I play with tertiary flavor components, switching things up in a drastic way. My main operandus modi is that the same main ingredients be reproduced in both sides. The execution relies upon me being able to put things together a la minute. What happens if the entire crowd decides on option 'B'?

Each diner will have a card, which will signify their option for the next course. A or B, so to speak. They will be given the option of 'choosing their own adventure.' Jo has some killer speakers lined up... just the kinda inspirational people leading extraordinary lives that I personally find, well, inspirational!

I'm gonna have a bunch of 'touches' at my disposal... some I have to reevaluate from a cost-conscious basis. Fois Gras dust? I have to buy too much, but maybe I can Piggyback on a rest partner's order. Saffron garnish? Yeah, gonna have to call (x) for that one...

There is much to be done, yet..,.

PS. Oh yeah, and the menus will read more like a collection of aphorisms, constantly attempting to inspire the diners to truly enjoy the experience that thier hard-earned money has brought them.... lol!

Yeah, sure thing... it is a speakeasy, so I won't be able to divulge the location and exact menu/expressions/inspirations until afterwards. That would take all the 'adventure' out of it, lol!

But I'll get you guys the info first, of course. I'm looking forward to giving it my all!

Ok, the date is set:

Thursday, March 11th at 5:00. Dinner at 6:45. Remember, these are multimedia events and Jo enjoys adding layers of entertainment to the venues!

I should have the full release back in the next 24-48 hours and I will post it here first, of course.

$75 all-inclusive. 5 courses, appertif, digestif and wine pairings.

Oh! And a location hint/tease- it will be held at an institute of higher knoweledge. Could be a school, museum, gallery or even a restaurant or bar that supports the fine arts and the crafts...

EDIT: The date has changed due to weather conditions...

Jo is SO annoying....*sigh*

Silly question: What is the standard dress? This sounds very intriguing; I may try and attend.

- Note: I've known Jo for....well....since I was shorter and unable to drive. :)

Hehe...

Dress is business casual, with a touch if you so choose. Jo always sends out a suggested clothing theme, like 'black and red for Maker's Mark.' She also sends a speakeasy password too.
